What fruit is the Dinosaur Egg? Introduction to the plumcot variety Dinosaur Egg
The plumcot is a new fruit obtained by crossing apricots and plums.
The Dinosaur Egg fruit is nearly round, a large-fruited type, with a longitudinal diameter of 5.2--6.3cm and a transverse diameter of 5.6--6.6cm, an average single fruit weight of 126g, and a maximum fruit weight of 145g, clingstone, with the fruit surface turning yellow-red when ripe, the flesh bright red like blood, crisp, sweet and refreshing in texture, and a soluble solids content of 18%--19%. The fruit ripening period is early to mid-August, the development period is 135d (days), and the chilling requirement is 400--500h (hours). Extremely storage-tolerant, it can be stored for 15--30d at room temperature and for 4--6 months under low-temperature conditions of 2--5°C. This variety has strong adaptability and is not strict about the pH of the planting soil; it can be planted in any area suitable for growing apricots and plums. After the seedlings are planted, in the second year the average fruit set per plant is 8--12kg, and in the full-bearing period the yield per plant is 30--50kg. In the south it can be planted after leaf fall in autumn, and in the north it can be planted after the Spring Festival before bud break; a plant spacing of 3mx3m or 3mx4m is best, with 56--83 plants per 667 sq m. The tree shape can adopt the natural open-center form or the small-canopy delayed-open-center form. Most plumcot hybrid varieties require cross-pollination, so suitable pollinator varieties should be arranged, such as Flavor Queen, Flavor King, Flavor Emperor, etc.
