Xianmi Jujube: A Premium Variety Among Fresh-Eating Jujubes
1. Early to market. It ripens in early September (Zhanhua winter jujube ripens in early October), so it can be marketed during the Mid-Autumn Festival. It can also be picked and sold in late August at the wax-ripe stage, when the flesh is relatively crisp, with little residue, abundant juice, a rich and very sweet taste, and a quality that has already reached the upper-intermediate level.
2. Large fruit. The fruit is short and round, with a purplish-red surface, thin skin, thick flesh, and a very small pit. The average single-fruit weight is 28 g (Zhanhua winter jujube is 14 g), and large fruits reach 40 g, giving it excellent commercial appearance.
3. Excellent quality. The flesh is extremely fine, especially crisp, juicy, and sweet, containing 41.6% soluble solids, making it a particularly superior variety among fresh-eating jujubes.
4. Quick to show results. Planted as a young tree in the same year, it bears fruit in the same year. In the second year, the average yield per tree is 4 kg. For a three-year-old jujube tree, with a trunk as thick as a beer bottle, a single tree bears more than 10 kg of fruit. Its early fruiting and exceptionally high yield are unmatched by varieties such as Zhanhua winter jujube.
5. Easy to manage. It requires extensive management and almost no pruning; it has strong disease resistance and needs few pesticide applications. The jujube fruit is a green fruit, meeting the food demands of modern consumers.
