What are the excellent processing-type yellow peach varieties? These few are worth planting
Since China joined the WTO in 2000, processing-type yellow peaches, which had been neglected for many years, have become popular again in recent years. From 2002 to 2004, the market price of yellow peaches was about 3 yuan/jin, and a fruit grower planting one mu of yellow peaches could earn the equivalent income of 3-5 mu of ordinary peaches. Therefore, the yellow peach cultivation area expanded rapidly across the country. To guide fruit growers in selecting yellow peach varieties, based on the standard that processing-type yellow peaches must have "golden yellow or orange flesh, high firmness, non-melting texture, no red pigment after ripening, and resistance to high-temperature steaming and boiling," we selected 5 excellent varieties from more than a dozen yellow peach varieties cultivated locally. They are introduced as follows.
1. Mingxing (Star) Introduced from the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute in 1983. Ripens in late July. The fruit is round, and the flesh is golden yellow. The pit is small, clingstone, fruit weight 200-300 g, maximum 530 g. The fruit surface is orange-yellow. Soluble solids 13.1%. Processing utilization rate is 78%. Resistant to brown rot, high yield, etc. This variety is an ideal variety for processing canned peaches.
2. Jintong No. 7 Originally from the United States, introduced to our area in 1984. Ripens in early September. The fruit is round, average single fruit weight 200 g, maximum fruit weight 346 g. Both flesh and skin are yellow. Clingstone, small pit, soluble solids 13.12%. Processing utilization rate is about 75%. Resistant to gummosis, high and stable yield.
3. Jintong No. 8 An American variety, introduced to our area in 1994. Ripens in mid-September. The fruit is round, average single fruit weight 226 g, maximum fruit weight 270 g; the flesh is yellow, the fruit texture is dense, the skin is yellow, clingstone, flesh-to-pit ratio is 19.79:1. Soluble solids 17.77%. Processing utilization rate is 76%. This variety is the late-maturing variety with the most development potential.
4. Taiyang Nianhe (Sun Clingstone) Introduced from the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute in 1985. Ripens in late August. The fruit is round. Fruit weight is generally 180-220 g. Both flesh and skin are yellow, the pit is relatively large, clingstone. Soluble solids 14.21%, processing utilization rate 70%. Disease-resistant and high-yielding.
