How is the peach variety Xinshijie (New World)? A detailed introduction to its characteristics
Japanese variety. Bred by the Gunma Prefectural Agricultural Experiment Station in Japan, parents Fuji x Akagi. Crossed in 1971, released in 1988. Introduced from Japan by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1990. At present, production observation is still under way in China, with small-scale trial plantings in Shandong, Liaoning and other provinces.
The fruit is oblong, some fruit slightly lopsided, average single fruit weight about 250 g; ground color yellow-green, overlaid with deep red all over and dark red stripes; the fruit surface is smooth, no russeting, medium-heavy wax, slight aroma, flavor sweet-acid and rich, soluble solids content 14%-15%, quality excellent. Young trees grow vigorously, and after fruiting the tree vigor becomes moderate; budbreak rate is high, branching ability relatively poor. Trees bear fruit 4 years after planting; after the full bearing period, fruiting is mainly on short fruit spurs, self-fruitfulness rate is high, fruit set rate per inflorescence is high, preharvest fruit drop is slight, and yields are high. It ripens in late September in the old course of the Yellow River region and in early October in North China, so timely harvesting should be observed. Its storage life is inferior to that of Fuji-series varieties, and it can be stored for about 5 months under cold storage.
It has wide adaptability, and fruit colors well even when grown in warm areas; it is relatively resistant to powdery mildew, Marssonina leaf spot and moldy core. Fruit can also ripen fully when grown in relatively cool areas. Pruning should be used to prevent premature decline of tree vigor. It has been reported that the fruit has an astringent taste when not sufficiently ripe, and that the stem cavity tends to split when overripe. Therefore, judging maturity well and harvesting at the right time is an important step in ensuring fruit quality.
