Key Technical Measures for Summer Management of Golden Pear

In golden pear cultivation, the low rate of premium fruit is mainly due to an excess of deformed fruit and russeted fruit. Summer management is the key period for improving fruit quality, and the main technical measures are introduced as follows: 1. From mid-June to late August is the fruit expansion period, and golden pear requires a relatively large amount of water. Under drought conditions, the pear shrinks and wrinkles during the day and absorbs water at night to replenish, after which it can recover or grow; otherwise the fruit remains small or permanently wrinkled. In golden pear cultivation, the low rate of premium fruit is mainly due to an excess of deformed fruit and russeted fruit. Summer management is the key period for improving fruit quality, and the main technical measures are introduced as follows:

1. In late July, if there is a long drought without rain, fruit cracking of varying degrees often occurs. Therefore, during this period, continuous irrigation should be carried out according to weather conditions and soil moisture, in order to promote fruit enlargement and prevent the occurrence of toad-skin fruit. Golden pear is relatively tolerant of waterlogging, but in prolonged rain, drainage should be carried out promptly.

2. In mid-June, fruit expansion fertilizer should be applied. Generally, 1.5-2 kg of compound fertilizer is applied per tree, depending on the size of the tree. Radial trenches are opened, and after broadcast application, water is applied. Early July is the beginning of rapid fruit expansion, and foliar fertilizer should be applied while nitrogen fertilizer is controlled. Generally, 0.1-0.2 kg of monopotassium phosphate is sprayed per tree to improve fruit quality.

3. Pest and disease control is an important guarantee for increasing golden pear yield. The main diseases from June to August include pear scab, brown spot, and ring rot, while the main pests include oriental fruit moth, scarab beetles, psyllids, pear aphids, and red spiders. The control method is: in mid-June, spray carbendazim + abamectin (or pyrethrin). In early July, spray imidacloprid + flusilazole; in late July, spray mancozeb + taoxiaoling. In early August, spray methomyl + carbendazim. At the same time, sugar-vinegar liquid traps can be hung to kill oriental fruit moths, scarab beetles, pear aphids, and others.

4. In early June, spring shoots stop growing after terminal bud formation, and summer pruning, pinching, branch thinning, and branch bending should be carried out. This can prevent poor ventilation caused by dense branches and leaves in the canopy. During the young fruit stage, fruit russeting is likely to occur when there is excessive water and high air humidity. Generally, the number of branches is 1000-2000 per tree.
