Introduction to the variety characteristics of the pear cultivar Liuyuesu
Extra-early-maturing high-quality pear ---- Liuyuesu, is a new variety with market potential and suitable for off-season protected cultivation, selected in 1998 from the Zaosu pear orchard in the Northwest Fruit Tree Science Demonstration Garden of Shaanxi. After 5 consecutive years of observation, its outstanding superior traits include the following:
Extra-early maturity, remarkable economic benefits
Observed in the demonstration garden in the Weinan area of Shaanxi, it flowers on March 25 and can be harvested on June 15, with marketable pears of more than 250 grams available for sale, and the marketable rate already accounting for 60%. On June 20, large fruits of 7.5 cm already accounted for 70%--80% (Zaosu pear only 10%, average fruit 135 grams), and maturity is concentrated, with picking completed by the end of June and all fruits marketed. The marketing period is 30 days earlier than Zaosu pear and 10--15 days earlier than Fujiki No. 1 apple, right in the gap season when various fruits are on the market. Under field cultivation, it forms flower buds and bears fruit in 3 years, enters the high-yield period in 4 years, and in full fruit period the yield per mu is 4000 kg.
Excellent quality, strong disease resistance
The average fruit weight of Liuyuesu is more than 290 grams, larger than Zaosu pear in the same period, with a maximum of 600 grams. The fruit is crisp and juicy, sweet and refreshing, with soluble solids of 10.8%--11.5%. In recent years, after continuous 4-year multi-point regional trial planting in Shaanxi and Shanxi by experts, it has shown stable traits, strong resistance to pear scab, fast tree growth, compact structure, short growth period, and labor-saving management. It is suitable for fruit growers in pear-producing regions nationwide for variety renewal, dwarfing and close planting, and protected cultivation, with promising development prospects.
