Introduction to the Characteristics and Cultivation Techniques of the E-li No. 2 Variety
In 2002, it passed the examination (approval) by the Hubei Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee, variety examination (approval). The fruit shape is uniform, the core is extremely small, the flesh is tender, crisp, and aromatic, with abundant juice and excellent quality. In trial plantings in Yicheng, Wusan Farm, Jiayu and other places, it can bear fruit in the third year after planting, and in the fourth year each plant can yield up to 15 kg, with a general yield of 2000 kg per mu at full bearing age. The fruit ripens in mid-to-late July, with an average single fruit weight of 190 g and a maximum single fruit weight of up to 300 g. The fruit has average storability. It is relatively resistant to scab, its resistance to black spot is stronger than that of Jinshui No. 2, and its resistance to ring rot and rust is the same as that of Jinshui No. 2.
Cultivation points: 1. Establish the orchard to a high standard. Before planting, trenches should be dug and the soil improved, and sufficient organic fertilizer should be applied. Plant on raised beds, with a plant spacing of 2 x 4 m. Pair it with Jinshui No. 2, which has a similar flowering period, as the pollinator variety. 2. Training and pruning. Train to a double-layer open-center form or a small-crown sparse-layer form; prune young trees lightly, with few heading cuts and more branch bending and pinching to promote branching, build a strong framework, and develop large, medium, and small fruiting branch groups; during full bearing age, pay attention to renewal pruning and rejuvenation of fruiting branch groups by cutting back, so as to prolong the full bearing period. 3. Rational fertilization. Apply base fertilizer heavily in autumn, and apply farmyard manure at a ratio of 1 kg fruit to 1-2 kg fertilizer; in mid-February (20-30 days before bud break), apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer as a bud-break fertilizer; in mid-May, apply compound fertilizer as a fruit-sizing fertilizer. Pay attention to irrigation in June-July to promote fruit enlargement and improve quality. 4. Focus on flower and fruit thinning. Thin flower buds before flower bud swelling in combination with pre-bloom follow-up pruning, and thin fruit 10 days after petal fall, leaving 2-3 fruits per fruit cluster. Final fruit set in mid-May, leaving a single fruit per fruit cluster, preferably the fruit at the 2nd to 4th inflorescence position. 5. Integrated pest and disease control. Prevent premature defoliation and secondary bloom.
