Premium introduction of Xianmi Jujube, a new fresh-eating jujube variety
1. Early on the market: it ripens in early September (Zhanhua winter jujube ripens in early October), so it can be marketed during the Mid-Autumn Festival. It can also be picked and sold in late August at the wax-ripe stage, when the flesh is relatively crisp, with little residue, abundant juice, a rich and sweet taste and flavor, and a quality that has already reached the upper-intermediate level.
2. Large fruit: the fruit is short and round, with a purplish-red skin, thin skin and thick flesh, and a very small pit. The average single-fruit weight is 28 g (Zhanhua winter jujube is 14 g), and large fruits reach 40 g, giving it excellent external marketability.
3. Excellent quality: the flesh is extremely fine, especially crisp, very juicy and sweet, with a soluble solids content of 41.6%, making it a premium variety among fresh-eating jujubes.
4. Quick returns: planted as a mature seedling in the same year, it bears fruit in the same year. In the second year, the average yield per plant is 4 kg. For a three-year-old jujube tree, the trunk is as thick as a beer bottle, and a single plant bears more than 10 kg of fruit. With early fruiting and especially high yields, it is unmatched by varieties such as Zhanhua winter jujube.
5. Easy to manage: management is extensive, and pruning is hardly needed; it has strong disease resistance and requires few pesticide applications. The jujube fruit is a green fruit, meeting the food demands of modern consumers.
