A nationally authorized protected variety - Longting Apricot-Plum
Longting Apricot-Plum is a new fruit tree variety discovered by forestry science and technology personnel in Longting Town, Xintai City, Shandong Province. It belongs to the Rosaceae family and is an accidental hybrid bud sport of apricot and plum. The State Forestry Administration has authorized protection, with authorization number 20030002.
The Longting Apricot-Plum tree has grayish-white bark, many branches, the sunny side of the outer new shoots is red, elliptical leaves, white flowers, a high proportion of complete flowers, a flowering period of about 7 days, tolerance to low temperatures, resistance to late frost, and a high natural fruit-setting rate. The fruit is nearly spherical, with a smooth top, a shallow suture, and symmetrical sides. The average single fruit weight from natural fruit set is 47.5 grams, the average single fruit weight after reasonable fruit thinning is 71.3 grams, and the maximum is 110 grams. The fruit surface has no bloom, no fuzz, is smooth and glossy, with a golden yellow base color, and the sunny side is bright red, with the colored area covering 1/3-1/2. The flesh is yellow and semi-transparent, relatively firm, has a 3-5 day post-ripening period, is suitable for long-distance transport, and has a shelf life of 7-10 days. The fruit's soluble solids are 11.5%, total sugar 7.95%, with a strong aroma. Eaten fresh, it is sweet and tart, with a unique flavor, top-grade quality, and is suitable for processing.
This variety generally uses apricot as rootstock. This variety flowers easily, mainly bearing fruit on short fruit branches and bouquet-like fruit branches. The natural fruit-setting rate is very high, and it has extremely strong productivity, with no alternate bearing phenomenon. With proper management, it bears fruit in 2-3 years and enters the full production period in 5-6 years.
During dormancy, Longting Apricot-Plum can withstand low temperatures of -30°C. When the soil temperature reaches 5°C, new roots begin to grow, and the suitable temperature during the flowering period is 6-18°C. It is a light-loving tree species. Sufficient light not only results in high yield and good quality, but also a larger colored area and beautiful appearance. Locally, it sprouts in late March, blooms in early to mid-April, the fruit turns from green to yellow at the end of June, and matures around July 8. The fruit development period is 80 days, and leaves fall in early November.
