Scraping bark from pear trees in winter is the key to growing good pears
The farming proverb says: "If you want to eat good pears, scrape the bark in winter." In the cold winter season, scraping off the old bark from pear trees that have already borne fruit can effectively eliminate the fungal spores of pear scab, ring rot, anthracnose, pear rust and other diseases that remain inside and outside the old cracked bark of pear trees, as well as the eggs of many pear tree pests such as pear psylla, aphids, fruit borers and scale insects, ensuring healthy growth of the pear trees, high quality, high yield and high returns.
Scraping the bark must be thorough. When scraping bark from pear trees, you must thoroughly and cleanly scrape off the old cracked bark, and the fungal spores of many pear tree diseases such as rotten disease, pear scab, ring rot and anthracnose, and the eggs of many pear tree pests such as scale insects, pear psylla, aphids and fruit borers.
The scraped bark must be handled properly. When scraping pear tree bark, spread plastic sheeting, gunny sacks or similar materials under the pear tree, clean up the scraped diseased bark and diseased branches completely, gather them together, carry them out of the pear orchard to an open area far away and burn them, so as to prevent the fungal spores in the diseased pear bark and diseased bark patterns from spreading again and infecting and harming the fruit trees.
After scraping the bark, apply medicine to disinfect. 10-15 days after scraping the bark of the pear trees, apply a 50-fold solution of Junduqing or Fubiqing to the trunks to disinfect and sterilize. Note that you must not apply the medicine immediately after scraping the bark, so as to avoid drug poisoning and the undesirable phenomena of dead branches and dead trees.
Scraping the bark must be done properly. The scientific and correct method of scraping pear tree bark is: "Scrape large trees until the white shows, scrape small trees until the green shows." Under no circumstances should you scrape through the xylem, so as to avoid the undesirable phenomena of dead branches and dead trees caused by scraping too heavily.
The bark-scraping tools must be hygienic. All knives used to scrape pear tree bark must be clean and hygienic, not rusty and not rotten. After scraping each tree or piece of bark with disease spots, the bark-scraping knife must be disinfected and sterilized with a 50-fold solution of Junduqing before it can be used again. This prevents fungal spores from spreading and infecting again and harming the normal growth of the fruit trees.
