Key Management Techniques for Greenhouse Peach Trees Before Temperature Increase

I. Pruning To ensure a relatively good yield from greenhouse peaches, long-branch pruning should be adopted, keeping as many branches as possible and removing as few as possible. According to the space inside the greenhouse and the requirements of tree shape growth, while retaining 3-4 basic scaffold branches per tree, remove large branches that disrupt the tree shape, weak branches, non-flowering branches, diseased and pest-infested branches, overly dense branches, and crossing or overlapping branches; thin out or flatten the upward-growing medium and long fruiting branches; leave the extension branches unpruned; leave medium and long branches unpruned; and cut back the downward-hanging fruiting branches. The pruning amount should be controlled at about 10% of the total, so that after pruning each peach tree retains 8

The pruning amount should be controlled at about 10% of the total, so that after pruning each peach tree retains 80-140 compound flower buds.

II. Fertilization and Watering Apply per mu 6 cubic meters of fully decomposed chicken manure or 3,000 kg of farmyard manure, 10 kg of urea, 8 kg of diammonium phosphate, and 8 kg of potassium sulfate, or an equivalent amount of multi-element compound fertilizer. Dig 3-4 holes between plants or between rows, each 30 cm long, 30 cm wide, and 30 cm deep, and apply the fertilizer in a concentrated manner.

III. Cleaning the Greenhouse Gently strip off the leaves by hand, remove weeds, and clear all fallen leaves, weeds, branches, and other debris out of the greenhouse, then bury them deeply or burn them in a centralized manner. After that, spray the entire orchard once with 4-5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture to eliminate overwintering pathogens and insect eggs.

IV. Maintaining Low Temperature The temperature inside the greenhouse is mainly regulated by measures such as covering and uncovering grass mats and opening and closing ventilation openings. When the temperature in late autumn drops below 10°C, it is best to start covering the greenhouse at 7°C-8°C, adding grass mats on top of the greenhouse film. The covering and uncovering of the grass mats is exactly opposite to temperature-increasing management: at night, uncover the grass mats and open the ventilation openings; during the day, cover the grass mats tightly and close the ventilation openings. As the temperature drops, when the temperature inside the greenhouse is below 7°C both day and night, no longer uncover or cover the grass mats or open the ventilation openings. The purpose is to keep the air temperature inside the greenhouse between 0°C and 7°C as much as possible, so as to satisfy the chilling requirement of the peach trees. After most varieties are treated in a concentrated manner for about 30 days, they can successfully break dormancy.
