Scraping pear tree bark in winter, a key step to growing good pears
As the farming proverb says: "If you want to eat good pears, scrape the bark in winter." In the cold winter season, scraping the old bark off pear trees that have already borne fruit can effectively eliminate the spores of pear scab, ring rot, anthracnose, pear rust and other fungal diseases that remain inside and outside the old cracked bark of pear trees, as well as the eggs of pear psylla, aphids, fruit borers, scale insects and many other pear tree pests, ensuring healthy growth of the pear trees, high quality, high yield and high returns.
Scraping must be thorough: when scraping pear trees, you must thoroughly and cleanly scrape off the old cracked bark, pear canker, pear scab, ring rot, anthracnose, scale insects, pear psylla, aphids, fruit borers and the spores of many other pear tree diseases and the eggs of many other pear tree pests.
The scraped bark must be handled properly: when scraping pear tree bark, spread plastic sheeting, burlap sacks or similar material under the tree, clean up the scraped diseased bark and diseased branches completely, gather them and carry them out of the pear orchard to a remote open area to burn, so as to prevent the fungal spores in the diseased bark and diseased tissue from spreading again and infecting and harming the fruit trees.
Apply medicine to disinfect after scraping: 10-15 days after scraping the pear trees, apply a 50-fold solution of Junduqing or Fubiqing to the trunk to disinfect and sterilise. Note that you must not apply medicine immediately after scraping the bark, to avoid causing chemical poisoning and the undesirable occurrence of dead branches and dead trees.
Scraping must be done properly: the scientifically correct method for scraping pear tree bark is: "scrape large trees until the white shows, scrape small trees until the green shows." Never scrape through the xylem, to avoid the undesirable occurrence of dead branches and dead trees caused by scraping too deeply.
Scraping tools must be hygienic: all knives used to scrape pear tree bark must be clean and hygienic, not rusty and not rotten. After scraping each tree or piece of bark with disease spots, the scraping tool must be disinfected and sterilised with a 50-fold solution of Junduqing before it can be used again. This prevents fungal spores from spreading again, infecting and harming the normal growth of the fruit trees.
