Peach Variety Recommendations: Zhejiang University Experimental Farm

The characteristics of each variety are briefly introduced below for reference: Peach Matsumori Wase originated in Japan, matures in late June to early July, average single fruit weight 232 grams, maximum 400 grams, the whole fruit is bright red and gorgeous, the flesh is crisp and sweet, sugar content 13.1%, top-grade quality, abundant pollen, high fruit set rate, thinning of fruit must be done carefully, tolerant of storage and transport, suitable for shipping to large cities, high selling price, high and stable yield, worthy of vigorous development. Shin-Kawanakajima: fruit matures in early August, fruit development period 100-110 days, single fruit weight 260-350 grams, maximum single fruit weight 460 grams, round to oval, the fruit is fully bright red, brilliant in color, smooth skin, flesh crisp and firm, rich in juice, can be stored at room temperature for 10-15 days, extremely tolerant of storage and transport, good marketability, fruit sugar content above 13.5, distinctive flavor and rich aroma, exceptionally superior quality, natural pollination rate and fruit set rate high, thinning of fruit must be done carefully; it is a new large-fruited, fully red, high-grade, high-quality peach variety. Annong Shuimi Peach matures June 15-19, average single fruit weight 245 grams, maximum single fruit weight 558 grams, fruit oblong, the whole fruit bears a beautiful red blush, soluble solids 13%, acid content 0.12%, flesh fine and tender, rich in juice, sweet and fragrant, excellent quality, popularly called the "king of contemporary early-maturing peaches"; because the fruit is extra large and the appearance is attractive, the selling price of fresh fruit on the market is 2-3 times higher than that of other peaches, and it is even more a good variety for greenhouse cultivation. When establishing an orchard, 2-3 other early-maturing peach varieties need to be planted as pollinizers, at a ratio of 4:1 or 6:1, and artificial pollination may also be carried out. Hujing Milu: selected from a peach orchard in Hujing Village on the outskirts of Wuxi, tree vigor on the strong side, tree form open, many secondary flower buds, high fruit set rate, fruit round, skin creamy yellow, with a pale red blush at the top. Average fruit weight 130 grams, flesh fine and dense, rich in juice, soluble solids 12-14%, skin greenish white, with many red blotches distributed, beautiful in appearance, high and stable yield, matures in mid-July in the Hangzhou area, and is a relatively ideal mid-season variety in Zhejiang Province. Daxian Tao matures in mid-August, single fruit weight 350 grams, maximum 875 grams, the whole fruit surface bright red, flesh white, flesh sweet and crisp, rich in juice and full in flavor, soluble solids 14%, top-grade variety, small stone and freestone, does not crack, tolerant of storage and transport. Yanhong matures in early to mid-August, fruit round, average fruit weight 150 grams, large fruit weight 350 grams, skin greenish white, with a red blush on the appearance, flesh fine and dense, rich in juice, high and stable yield. Ghana Rock White Peach matures in mid-July, average single fruit weight 287 grams, fruit ground color yellow-green, with banded bright red coloring, flesh white, melting, few fibers, rich in juice and excellent quality, sugar content 13.4%, high self-fruit set rate, high yield and easy to cultivate. Early-maturing Flat Peach matures in early June, single fruit weight 120-150 grams, shaped like a mooncake, fruit surface bright red, high ornamental value, rich in juice and sweet, with the flavor of a honey peach, high and stable yield. Zaohong Baoshi matures at the end of May, fruit development period 60-65 days, average single fruit weight 112 grams, maximum fruit weight 165 grams, fruit round, neat and smooth, ruby red in color, beautiful and enticing in appearance, flesh yellow, rich in juice and sweet, aromatic, high yield. Shuguang Sweet Nectarine an extra-early-maturing sweet nectarine, fruit matures at the end of May to early June, maximum single fruit weight 315 grams, the whole fruit bears a deep red color, flavor deeply sweet, firm-melting flesh, relatively tolerant of storage and transport, clingstone, extremely high yield, no fruit cracking. This variety fills the gap in extra-early-maturing nectarines in our country, is the first choice variety for greenhouse cultivation, and has broad prospects for development. Marivina introduced from the United States in 1985, blooms early, flowering from late February to early March, a moving spectacle in spring tourism resources. Planted in the first year, it can be harvested in the second year, yield reaches 3000-4000 jin per mu, and the peach color is bright and the appearance pleasing. Daguang No. 1 fruit oblong, average fruit weight 110 grams, large fruit weight 350 grams, fruit surface with red blush, beautiful in appearance, flesh soft, relatively sweet, rich in juice, high yield, matures on June 10 in the Hangzhou area, with good prospects for cultivation. Yanfeng selected from Bai Feng, matures in early July, 2-3 days later than Bai Feng, fruit larger than Bai Feng, average fruit weight about 120 grams, fruit soft, rich in juice and sweet, soluble solids about 13%, tree vigor medium to strong, crown open, extremely high yield. Datuan selected as a seedling from a peach orchard in Datuan Town, Nanhui, Shanghai, fruit round, average fruit weight 150 grams, flesh firm, skin thick, tolerant of storage and transport, soluble solids 12%, top-grade quality, tree vigor strong, tree form open, high yield, matures on July 15. Yingqing a superior variation of honey peach discovered at the Huangshan Horticultural Farm in Zhenjiang, late-maturing, fruit extra large, average fruit weight 164 grams, fruit round, skin greenish white, skin thick, strong toughness, tolerant of storage and transport, soluble solids 13%, tree form semi-open, good yielding ability, maturity period mid-September. Shazao Wase tree vigor strong, fruit round, average fruit weight 150 grams, large fruit weight 400 grams, a small amount of red blush distributed at the fruit apex, flesh soft, slightly fibrous, sweet and rich in juice, soluble solids 8%-10%, no pollen, can be pollinated with Meigui Lu, Guan No. 1, and Gangshan Wase; when fully mature, the flavor becomes bland, and in years with heavy rain there is a phenomenon of apex rot. Matures in mid-June in the Hangzhou area. Gangshan Wase matures in mid-June, fruit oblong, average fruit weight 120 grams, large fruit weight 224 grams, skin yellow-green, flesh milky white, slightly red near the stone, texture fine and soft, soluble solids 8%-11%, medium coarse fiber, mildly sweet flavor, rich in juice, medium aroma, freestone. Hongyan Lu tree vigor relatively strong, tree form open, fruit nearly round, average fruit weight above 120 grams, soluble solids 10-11%, not easily becoming mealy even when fully mature, overcoming the shortcoming of the female parent Shazao Wase becoming mealy after maturing. This variety has no pollen, so pollinizer trees need to be arranged when planting, and artificial pollination should be strengthened; fruit set performance is good, matures on June 10 in the Hangzhou area, is an early-maturing variety with relatively ideal overall traits, and has good prospects for cultivation. Meigui Lu tree vigor robust, tree form open, fruit nearly round, average fruit weight 100 grams, large fruit weight 153 grams, skin greenish white, with striped rose-red blush distributed on the fruit surface, beautiful in appearance, easy to peel, sweet and rich in juice, soluble solids 9-11%, clingstone. This variety matures in early to mid-June in the Hangzhou area, has abundant pollen, and is high-yielding. Zaoxia Lu matures on May 22, single fruit weight 120-200 grams, oblong, with a red blush at the top, beautiful in appearance, sweet flavor, aromatic, top-grade quality, easy to peel when ripe, fruit free of pests and diseases when ripe, very high yield, and can also be cultivated under protected conditions.
