Introduction to the Characteristics and Cultivation Techniques of the Jinling Yuan Date Variety
Jinling Yuan Date has extra-large fruit, nearly round, with a longitudinal diameter of 4.25 cm, a transverse diameter of 3.93 cm, an average single fruit weight of 26 g, and a maximum of 75 g (under the same cultivation conditions in western Liaoning, the average single fruit weight of the Linqi pear date from Shanxi is 24 g, with a maximum of 55 g). The fresh date contains 39.2% soluble solids, 32.32% total sugar, 0.39% total acid, and a vitamin C content of 329.3 mg/100 g, with an edible rate of 96.7%. The flesh is dense, crisp and juicy, and the fresh-eating quality is excellent.
This variety is early-fruiting, early-maturing, high-yielding, and stable-yielding. Planted in the same year, it bears fruit in the same year, and in the second year a single plant bears 0.6
kg. In western Liaoning, it begins to color and go on the market on September 5, with a fruit development period of 85 days. It is currently the earliest-maturing new large-fruited fresh-eating date variety in China. In addition, it is cold-resistant, drought-resistant, disease-resistant, and tolerant of poor soil. Its cultivation technique is simple, its economic benefits are significant, and its cultivation area is wide. It is extremely suitable for cultivation in the "Three North" regions north of 40 degrees north latitude in China, and is a pioneer tree species for returning farmland to forest, developing economic forests, ecological forests, soil and water conservation, windbreak and sand-fixation forests, and industrial restructuring.
