Ruipan 21 is a new extremely late-maturing flat peach cultivar
The flat peach is a variant of the peach and a unique resource of our country. The Institute of Forestry and Pomology, Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences launched a flat peach breeding program in the late 1970s, and several cultivars bred from it have already been widely promoted in production, but extremely late-maturing cultivars with a fruit development period of more than 160 d are still rare. 'Ruipan 21' (see color photo on the inside back cover) is an extremely late-maturing flat peach cultivar obtained from the cross 'Fantasia' x 'Ruipan 4' (1996), and was approved by the Beijing Municipal Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2006. Cultivar characteristics and traits
The tree vigor is moderate, and the tree habit is semi-spreading. One-year-old branches are reddish brown on the sunny side and green on the shaded side. Leaves are long elliptic-lanceolate, slightly concave inward on the surface, with a wedge-shaped leaf base close to a right angle, green leaves, and bluntly serrate leaf margins. Nectaries are kidney-shaped, 2-4 in number. Flowers are rosette-shaped and pink. Anthers are orange-red and contain pollen. The inner wall of the calyx tube is greenish yellow, and the pistil is equal in height to or slightly lower than the stamens. Flower bud formation is relatively good, with many compound flower buds and a low starting node position for flower buds. All types of fruiting branches can bear fruit; young trees mainly bear fruit on long and medium fruiting branches, and the natural fruit-setting rate is high. The yielding ability is strong, with a yield of more than 30 t/hm2 in the full fruiting period.
The fruit is flat in shape and uniform in size, with a vertical diameter of 5.46 cm, a transverse diameter of 8.64 cm, and a lateral diameter of 8.80
