Detailed Introduction to New American Red-Fleshed Plumcot Varieties
Plumcot is an emerging fruit obtained through a complex hybridization process between apricot and plum. Its fruit is richly aromatic with excellent flavor, and it also has fine characteristics such as large fruit, early fruiting, high and stable yield, a long harvest period, good storage tolerance, strong adaptability and high economic value. Red-fleshed plumcots are extremely rare on the market and bring very high cultivation returns. Three new American red-fleshed plumcot varieties with different ripening periods are introduced here.
1. Flavor Rose. The earliest-ripening new American red-fleshed plumcot hybrid variety; its fruit is flat in shape, turns purple-black when ripe, with a smooth, glossy and very attractive skin, bright red flesh, fragrant aroma and rich sweetness, and excellent quality. The soluble solids content is 17.2-18.5%, and the fruit weighs 100-120 g. The fruit ripens in mid to late May, with a fruit development period of 80-85 days. The tree is vigorous and has strong branching ability, forming a large number of flower buds in the same year. In the second year after planting, the average yield per tree is 5-10 kg, and in the full bearing period the yield can reach 2000 kg per mu.
2. Dinosaur Egg. The fruit is nearly round; when ripe, the skin is yellow-red, like a ripe Red Fuji apple. The fruit is extra large, with a longitudinal diameter of 5.2-6.3 cm and a transverse diameter of 5.5-6.6 cm, an average single fruit weight of 126 g and a maximum single fruit weight of 145 g. The stone clings to the flesh, and the flesh is bright red like blood, crisp, sweet and refreshing, with a soluble solids content of 18-19%. The fruit ripens in early to mid August, with a fruit development period of 135 days. The fruit stores extremely well: 15-30 days at room temperature, and 4-6 months at a low temperature of 2-5°C. It has strong adaptability and is not strict about the acidity or alkalinity of the planting soil; it can be planted wherever apricots and plums are suitable for cultivation. After field planting, in the second year the average fruit set per tree is 8-12 kg; in the full bearing period, the yield per tree is 30-50 kg, and the yield per mu can reach 2000-2500 kg.
3. Flavor King. The latest-ripening new American red-fleshed plumcot hybrid variety; the fruit is heart-shaped, bright red when ripe with a waxy luster, and very attractive in appearance. The fruit weighs 120-150 g, and the flesh is bright red, free-stone, extremely sweet with a strong fragrance and excellent quality. It ripens in mid to late August, with a fruit development period of about 140 days. The fruit is firm, has a long shelf life, and stores and ships extremely well. This variety is dwarfed and compact in tree form with a relatively small canopy, so it can be planted densely. It has strong early fruiting ability; in the second year after planting, the average yield per tree is 8-12 kg, and in the full bearing period the yield per mu can reach 2000-2500 kg.
