Detailed Explanation of Key Management Techniques for Peach Orchards in Early Spring
I. Clearing ditches and drainage. Low-lying terrain, heavy clay soil and waterlogging are the main constraints on high yield and quality of peach trees. If the ditch system in a peach orchard drains poorly, wet damage will injure the roots and weaken tree vigor. Therefore, the outflow ditches of the peach orchard must be thoroughly cleared to ensure unimpeded drainage, and where conditions permit, the furrow ditches should be deepened.
II. Applying spring fertilizer early according to tree vigor. For all mid-season varieties with heavy fruit set, such as: Bai Feng, Feng Lu, Taqiao and other peach trees, as well as weak trees that have not received winter fertilizer since the start of winter, spring fertilizer should be applied early. Fertilizer rate: imported compound fertilizer 0.5-1 kg per tree, domestic compound mixed fertilizer 1.5-2 kg per tree. Apply in a ring-shaped trench and cover with soil afterward. The application time is the end of February.
III. High-branch grafting. For wild peach trees in peach orchards aged 3 years or more, the high-branch grafting method can be used for grafting. Branch grafting has a relatively high survival rate, and the rootstock and stem are thick and strong; they can flower and bear fruit the following year, and by the third year the yield can be comparable to that of trees of the same age. The grafting time is the end of February to early March; the survival rate is higher when the sap begins to flow. Trees with poor varieties can also be top-grafted by branch grafting to change the cultivar.
IV. Timely application of lime sulfur. Lime sulfur has a very good killing effect on overwintering scale insects and aphids, and has a special effect on preventing peach fruit shriveling disease. The application time is March 1-10; when the bud scales show a slight red, the spray concentration can be reduced. For large growers with more than 10 mu, it is better to boil lime sulfur themselves.
V. Timely filling of gaps and transplanting. For newly planted peach orchards, under the premise of deep ditches and high beds, strive to plant by late February. For one- and two-year-old peach orchards
