What should you pay attention to when growing wampee? Keep these key points in mind
Wampee is a small tree in the Rutaceae family, and its fruit is also one of the fruits of southern China. It has a very long history of cultivation in our country, but because wampee is relatively niche, not many people know about it. So what conditions are needed to grow wampee? What issues should be noted when planting? Below let us learn together about the precautions for growing wampee.

1. Soil
Wampee does not have high requirements for the soil of the planting site. Generally speaking, most soils can be used to grow wampee, but different soils will have different effects on wampee cultivation. If it is planted in heavy clay, compacted soil, poorly drained soil, sandy soil, and other such soils, it will not only reduce the yield and quality of wampee, but also shorten the lifespan of wampee. So when choosing a planting site, we had best choose a plot with good soil permeability, good drainage, convenient irrigation, no pollution in the soil and water, and fertile soil for planting, so as to ensure the yield and quality of wampee.
2. Climate
Wampee is a typical subtropical fruit tree, so our country's climate is very suitable for growing wampee, but this does not mean it can be grown under any circumstances. Wampee grows better in a warm environment, so generally the temperature at the planting site should be at least around 20 degrees, preferably above 20 degrees. Of course, this does not mean the temperature in all seasons must be above 20 degrees. For example, in January it generally only needs to remain above 12 or 13 degrees, and during overwintering, as long as the temperature is not below zero, it will not suffer freeze damage. So this is also one of the main reasons why northern China is not suitable for growing wampee.
3. Light
Light conditions also have a very major impact on the growth of wampee. Wampee's growth has a relatively large demand for light, so the sunshine duration at the planting site must be relatively long. Under sufficient light, wampee grows very quickly, and at the same time the sugar content of the wampee fruit is higher, and both quality and yield are better. Of course, this does not mean wampee cannot grow in shady places. Areas with half shade and half sun are also very suitable for planting wampee, as long as it is not fully shaded.
4. Water and fertilizer
Wampee has a relatively large demand for water, because at every growth stage it needs water supplementation, so wampee's drought tolerance is still relatively lacking. In order to ensure normal growth and good development of wampee, what we need to do is water reasonably, and abundant water resources near the planting site have also become a necessary condition for it. Water reasonably according to the different water needs of wampee at different growth stages. Secondly, timely nutrient management is also quite important in the process of growing wampee. If nutrients are lacking, it will lead to weakened resistance of wampee, making it prone to disease, or cause nutritional deficiency, leading to reduced yield and quality of wampee. So for topdressing, it is necessary to apply fertilizer according to its fertilizer needs during the growth period, flowering period, fruiting period, and post-harvest period.
The above four planting conditions are the issues that most need attention in the process of growing wampee. Next are weeding, hilling and loosening the soil, pruning and shaping branches and leaves, thinning flowers and fruits, and pest and disease control, which are also issues we need to pay attention to during the growing process.
