Blueberry growing conditions

Blueberries are a new type of fruit that has sold well on the market in recent years, and are also one of the five healthy fruits recommended by the World Food and Agriculture Organization. Blueberries contain abundant nutrients, and regular consumption can have a good regulating effect on the body, but the daily amount should not be too much, otherwise it can also cause adverse reactions. At present, our country is also trial-planting blueberries in many regions, so what conditions are needed to grow blueberries? Follow the editor below to learn about it.

1. Climatic conditions

If blueberries are to flower and bear fruit, they need a certain amount of chilling hours, so regions like Hainan in our country are not suitable for growing blueberries. The so-called chilling requirement is the demand of blueberries for the climate of the growing site; generally there must be a certain market temperature at 7.2 degrees; secondly, different varieties of blueberries also have different requirements for climatic conditions. Highbush blueberries are suitable for growing at a temperature of minus 30 degrees, while half-high blueberries are suitable for growing at minus 38 degrees; lowbush blueberries are even better, able to grow at temperatures of minus 40 degrees or above. This also means that we need to decide the growing climatic conditions according to the selected variety.

2. Soil and soil texture requirements

Soil and soil texture requirements are the most basic conditions for blueberry growing. First, the blueberry growing site should have flat terrain and a relatively small slope; second, there should be sufficient light, and there should be no shading objects near the growing site. The soil should be slightly acidic soil; blueberries planted in such soil are more likely to survive, and the quality is also better. Finally, the soil should have good permeability, good water retention and drainage performance, and high organic matter content. Soil that is too poor is not suitable for growing blueberries.

3. Water and fertilizer needs

Blueberry growing has relatively strict requirements for water and fertilizer. Usually there must be a high-quality water source near the growing site, and it should be convenient for irrigation. Blueberries do not have a high demand for nutrients, so they do not need too much fertilizer; if there is too much fertilizer, it will instead affect the growth of blueberries. But this does not mean that no fertilizer is needed. We should properly improve the land and reasonably apply river sand, leaf mold, sawdust, peat, and so on.

4. Planting techniques

Blueberry planting techniques are the most critical condition for blueberry growing. Generally, if the planting techniques are not professional, and combined with the strict conditions for blueberry growing, it is very difficult to grow blueberries successfully. This is also why trial planting is needed before planting. In blueberry planting techniques, greenhouse hardening of seedlings, mixing nutrient soil, seedling raising in greenhouses, field planting and orchard establishment, maintenance and management, and prevention and control of pests and diseases are all the most basic planting requirements.

At present, blueberry growing in our country is mainly distributed in Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, and other places. It is believed that with our understanding of blueberry growing conditions and the research of professional teams on blueberry varieties, blueberry growing will be further developed afterward. That is all for what the editor wants to share with you today. If any of you want to learn about blueberry growing techniques, remember to leave a message for the editor.
