Environmental requirements for passion fruit growth

Passion fruit is a fruit that has emerged in China in recent years, and the passion fruit planting industry has only just begun to develop not long ago, so its development potential is still quite large. In addition, the profit margin for passion fruit is relatively large, so many people want to start growing it, but passion fruit growth does have certain environmental requirements. So today, the editor brings you the environmental conditions for growing passion fruit. Let's take a look below!

1. Soil

Passion fruit was originally a wild fruit, and its adaptability to soil is relatively strong, so it can grow normally in most soils. However, although it can grow and develop, the fruiting rate will be affected to a certain extent, and the quality of the fruit will also be very poor, reducing planting benefits. Therefore, before planting, we should choose a place with deep, loose and fertile soil, strong permeability, and a low incidence of pests and diseases. The soil layer must not be less than 50 cm. It cannot be planted in places with poor drainage and waterlogged depressions, and the soil pH value should be controlled at around 6.

2. Water

Passion fruit has a relatively large demand for water. If there is a lack of water during the growing process, the number of nodes on the passion fruit vine will be reduced. In addition, the length of the passion fruit vine will be insufficient, reducing the flowering and fruiting rate and lowering the yield. It will also cause the stems of the passion fruit vine to become thin and weak, the leaves to curl and become short and small, reduce the number of flowers and leaves, hinder the growth of lateral roots, affect nutrient absorption and the plant's metabolism, and thereby hinder the growth of passion fruit. However, water should not be excessive either. If there is too much water, it will cause root rot, trigger various pests and diseases, so water management is very important during cultivation.

3. Temperature

Passion fruit has certain temperature requirements, and different varieties of passion fruit also have different temperature requirements, but generally the optimal temperature is around 25 degrees. During cultivation, the temperature must not be lower than 14 degrees, otherwise the growth rate of passion fruit will become extremely slow or even stop growing. Passion fruit is not strongly resistant to low temperatures. In winter, if overwintering management is not done well, it is very likely to cause freeze damage to the fruit trees, and in severe cases it will cause the aboveground plants to dry up and die. The temperature also must not be too high. If it is too high, it will also inhibit the growth of passion fruit, reduce its stress resistance, trigger pests and diseases, and cause plant death.

4. Light

Passion fruit is a tropical fruit, so its demand for light is relatively large. Sufficient light can promote the growth of passion fruit vine branches, enhance photosynthesis, and increase the accumulation of photosynthetic substances. If there is insufficient light, the growth of passion fruit will slow down noticeably, branches will grow excessively, and the incidence of pests and diseases will gradually increase. However, when providing light, the plant must not be exposed to prolonged direct sunlight. If the exposure time is too long, it will cause leaf yellowing, hinder branch growth, slow the growth rate, make the fruit thin and shriveled, and produce severe sunscald that affects the growth of passion fruit.

The environmental requirements of passion fruit are relatively unusual, such as liking water but fearing waterlogging, and liking light but fearing sunscald, so growing passion fruit is relatively troublesome. Moreover, these are not only the environmental requirements for passion fruit growth, but also the management tasks we need to do well during the growing process. Only by doing these management tasks well can we ensure the normal growth of passion fruit and avoid unnecessary losses.
