Strawberry sweetening techniques

Strawberries are brightly colored and glossy with a sweet taste, but some strawberries look good yet have little sweetness, which gives many growers a real headache. So how can you increase the sweetness of strawberries? Let's take a look at strawberry sweetening techniques together below.

1. Temperature and light regulation

When cultivating in a greenhouse, keep the daytime temperature at 25-28°C and the morning temperature at 10-12°C, and it must not drop below 8°C. After entering the flowering stage, keep it at 23-25°C during the day and 8-10°C at night. During the fruit enlargement stage, keep it at 20-25°C during the day, and it must not be lower than 5°C at night. Regulating the day-night temperature difference in this way allows the fruit to accumulate sugar and increase sweetness. In addition, when cultivating strawberries in a greenhouse, the light duration must not be less than 10 hours per day. If there is insufficient light, electric lights or reflective film equipment can be installed to improve the light conditions.

2. Reasonable fertilization

Fertilization is also one of the methods to increase strawberry sweetness. When strawberries lack phosphorus, the plants grow poorly and the flowers and fruits are smaller; when they lack potassium, the color is dull and the taste is poor. Therefore, during cultivation, appropriately increasing the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can increase both yield and sweetness. In addition, increasing the application of organic fertilizer can also improve yield and sweetness. Organic fertilizer is rich in nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, sulfur and other trace elements essential to strawberries, which chemical fertilizers cannot match. However, when using organic fertilizer, it must be fully decomposed.

3. Water regulation

Strawberries cannot grow and develop without water. During cultivation, if there is too much water, it easily causes excessive vegetative growth of stems and leaves, affecting yield. Moreover, when the fruit is enlarging, if it absorbs too much water, it will also dilute the sugar inside, causing sweetness to decline. Therefore, water regulation is extremely important. During high-temperature periods, reduce the amount of watering and water frequently but lightly, keeping soil moisture at around 60%, which can noticeably increase sweetness.

4. Chemical regulation

During planting, in order to improve yield and quality, growers usually use various growth regulators to increase sweetness and yield. During the flowering and fruiting stage or the fruit enlargement stage, spraying Caiguo Zhuangdiling can noticeably improve the quality of pollen fertilization, strengthen the cyclic fruit-setting rate, promote fruit development, and increase sweetness.
