Control methods for common mango pests and diseases

Mango is one of our favorite fruits, with many varieties and a wide planting range, but during mango cultivation, the harm of pests and diseases has become an important factor in mango cultivation today, and it can have a huge impact on mango yield and quality. So what common pests and diseases occur during mango cultivation? Let's take a look at the control methods for common mango pests and diseases.

1. Anthracnose

Anthracnose mainly harms the young leaves, flowers, fruits and young shoots of mango cultivation, causing flower and fruit drop or fruit rot. After branches and leaves are infected, many brown round spots appear, and they expand into large round, polygonal or irregular lesions. When the disease is severe, the leaves shrink and twist, and eventually die. After the fruit is infected, brown round lesions appear, the center of the lesions sinks, the flesh becomes hard, and finally the fruit rots.

Control methods: After harvest, combined with clearing the orchard, prune diseased and dead branches and leaves, burn them in a concentrated manner or bury them deeply, and chemical sprays can be used for control. For example, when shoots are emerging, spray mancozeb or thiophanate-methyl for control; during the flowering period, spray captan or ferbam for control; the fruit can be soaked in carbendazim, which has a certain preservative effect.

2. Powdery mildew

Powdery mildew mainly harms inflorescences, fruits, leaves and young parts of the plant. Powdery white lesions first appear on the diseased areas, and the lesions gradually merge together to form a layer of white powdery substance, so that the inflorescences cannot bloom normally, and in severe cases the fruits also fall off.

Control methods: When the disease occurs, spray drugs such as thiophanate-methyl, triadimefon, kangkuening, lime sulfur mixture, and chlorothalonil, once every 7-10 days, and 2-3 consecutive sprays are enough.

3. Gummosis

It mainly harms the branches and trunk. When the disease occurs, the stem tissue discolors and small black grains can be seen, then the stem of the plant exudes amber resin and later turns brown. The branches above and below the diseased part may sprout some small branches, but the leaves slowly fade, and finally the entire branch withers. Peeling open the diseased tissue reveals that the bark and xylem have turned reddish brown.

Control methods: When the disease occurs, promptly dig out the affected area, apply Bordeaux mixture, and regularly spray copper oxychloride or fosetyl-aluminum.

4. Pests

The main pests of mango are mango scale insects, mango shoot borers, mango flower gall midges and mango leaf-cutting weevils. They harm different parts of the mango plant, boring into or sucking the sap of young parts, ultimately leading to plant weakening, causing flower and fruit drop, and affecting and harming yield and quality.

Control methods: To control pests, start from the source of the pests. When clearing the orchard, eliminate overwintering eggs thoroughly, spray pesticides during the larval stage for control, and combine agricultural control and physical control to completely eradicate the pests.
