Peach Bagging Technology

Everyone enjoys eating peaches. Peaches sell well on the market and bring good returns, which has attracted many growers to start cultivating them, but many problems arise during cultivation. Among these, the one that gives growers the biggest headache is pests and diseases, which harm the quality of the peaches. So many growers bag the fruit during the peach fruiting period, which can prevent various pests and diseases and also help reduce pesticide spraying. So how do you bag peaches? Let's find out together.

1. Bagging Time

Generally, bagging begins one month after flowering, or after the second physiological fruit drop, during the pit-hardening stage. The bagging time differs slightly among different varieties. Before bagging, spray the entire orchard thoroughly with an insecticide and fungicide once, and bag the fruit promptly after the solution dries. Choose a sunny day for bagging; do not bag on cloudy or rainy days or when the fruit surface is wet, as this can cause the fruit to rot.

2. Bag Selection

The quality of the bags affects the quality of the fruit. If the bags are of poor quality, they may have the opposite effect. Paper bags are recommended; paper bags can be single-layer or double-layer, and come in many colors. The bags should have good breathability, low water absorption, good light-blocking properties, and soft paper quality. Before bagging, the paper bags must undergo strict disinfection and sterilization treatment.

3. Bagging Method

When bagging, open the paper bag from the bottom, then slowly slip it over the young fruit from the bottom, being careful not to damage the fruit; if the young fruit is damaged, it may fail to expand. Fix the fruit in the center of the bag, and do not let the bag surface touch the young fruit, so as to avoid sunscald later on. Also be careful not to break the fruit stalk. When bagging, work from top to bottom and from inside to outside to prevent missing any fruit, and carefully bag each fruit.

4. Bag Removal Method

Removing the bags at the right time is the key to ensuring high-quality bagged fruit. If double-layer bags are used, bag removal is generally done in two steps: first, about half a month before the normal harvest, remove the outer bag, and after 3-5 days, remove the inner bag. It is best to remove the bags on a cloudy or partly cloudy day; on a sunny day, the best times are 9-11 a.m. and 15-18 p.m., avoiding periods of high temperature and high humidity. To promote even coloring of the fruit, remove the leaves near the fruit at the same time as removing the bags and after removing them.
