Growing conditions for guava

Guava, also called bale, jishiguo, or bazi, is one of the common fruits in the south. It is rich in nutrients and may also help treat diabetes and high blood pressure, making it fairly popular on the market. So what conditions are needed to grow guava? Let's take a look.

1. Soil requirements

Guava does not have high soil requirements, but it is suitable for growing in deep, loose, fertile sandy loam. In such soil, the plant not only grows quickly, but also produces abundant, high-quality fruit. Although it can still achieve decent yields when grown in relatively sticky soil, drainage measures must be done well to prevent a high groundwater table from affecting plant growth. If it is grown in sandy soil or gravelly soil with good water and fertilizer retention, then watering and fertilizing must be done well.

2. Temperature requirements

The suitable growing temperature for guava is between 23-28°C. It begins vegetative growth at around 15°C, and can generally be grown in areas where the monthly average temperature is above 15°C. It can tolerate both cold and short periods of high temperature, but it is afraid of frost and prolonged high-temperature drought. If the temperature is below 0°C, young trees will freeze to death directly, while long-term high temperatures are unfavorable for the plant's growth, flowering and fruiting, and fruit development. Under suitable temperatures, guava can send out new shoots multiple times a year and grow and water.

3. Water requirements

Guava is both drought-tolerant and moisture-tolerant, making it a fruit tree with a very wide range of adaptability, but during its growth period it still needs a certain amount of water to grow. It is suitable for growing in areas with annual rainfall of 1000-2000 mm. Within this range, it grows extremely fast. Once rainfall is too heavy, the fruit may decline in sweetness and flavor at maturity due to excessive moisture. In addition, excessive drought during flowering can cause flower drop and affect yield.

4. Light requirements

Guava prefers an environment with sufficient light and can also tolerate shade, but under sufficient light it grows faster and bears fruit earlier, with good fruit quality, allowing it to seize the market as quickly as possible and expand profits.
