How to Manage Raspberry Planting? Key Technical Points Explained in Detail
Raspberry is actually a kind of wild fruit, which is what we often call raspberry or wild raspberry, and some people also call it thorny berry. Raspberry carries the childhood of many people, especially for rural people, it was also a form of entertainment at that time. As wild raspberries gradually decrease, artificially planted raspberries are instead increasing. So how should raspberries be managed after planting to achieve high yield? Let us learn about it together below.

1. Field planting
The first thing in raspberry management is field planting. After we plant them, we need to check the growth of the seedlings in the field and replant missing seedlings in time. Then field planting should be carried out at a density of about 450 to 600 plants per mu, so that the yield of raspberries can be ensured, and at the same time the field ventilation at this density will not be too poor. When field planting, the fertility level of the soil also needs to be considered, and density management should be carried out specifically according to different fertility levels.
2. Weeding
After raspberries are planted, within one to two years, at least three to four rounds of cultivating and weeding are basically needed every year. They are respectively in the branch and leaf growth period in March, in May, in August, and before winter. After two years, generally only two rounds of cultivating and weeding are needed, respectively in the spring branch and leaf growth period and after the fruit harvest is completed. In addition, after each rainfall or watering, the soil should be loosened to enhance soil ventilation and prevent the land from becoming compacted.
3. Water and fertilizer
The growth rate of raspberries is actually relatively fast, and their fertilizer demand is also relatively large. At least three to four times of topdressing are needed each year. They are respectively in the spring budding period, before flowering, the fruit-setting period after flowering, and the late harvest period. We can use manure and urine water for irrigation or chemical fertilizers such as urea and ammonium bicarbonate for ring application. For fertilization in the late harvest period, we generally use barnyard manure or compost and carry out trench fertilization. In the budding period and fruit-setting period, we should combine it with watering, and secondly, in weather with more rain, drainage should be carried out in time. Finally, when encountering hot weather, remember to water reasonably to avoid flower and fruit drop, which affects the yield of raspberries.
4. Pruning
Pruning and shaping the branches and leaves of raspberries is also a relatively important task in management. Generally, pruning is carried out during the vigorous spring growth period and after the autumn fruit harvest, which can improve the yield and quality of raspberries. Generally, the thin, weak, dry branches and leaves at the top are pruned off, so that new side branches can sprout. Secondly, broken branches, dense branches, and diseased branches are pruned off, and strong branches are retained, so that the ventilation of the plant is not affected.
5. Trellising
The branches of raspberries are relatively soft, and during the fruiting period they basically cannot bear the weight of the fruit. So we need to build trellises in advance to prevent the fruit from drooping to the ground, getting dirty, and affecting the quality of the raspberries. Moreover, when raspberry branches droop, this also has a great impact on field ventilation and easily causes diseases, so when the branches and leaves grow in spring, trellises need to be built well, and the branches and leaves should be guided onto the trellises so that the trellises share the weight for them.
