High-yield cultivation methods for cherry tomatoes

Cherry tomatoes are actually just small tomatoes. We all know that tomatoes have very high nutritional value, and they also have beauty-enhancing, weight-loss and slimming effects, so they are deeply loved by women. That is why they were given such a lovely name, cherry tomato. So today let us follow Qinong Net to take a look at how to plant them to increase the yield of cherry tomatoes.

1. Land preparation

Cherry tomatoes are extremely adaptable to the environment and do not have high soil requirements, so they can be planted in ordinary planting land. During land preparation, special attention should be paid to raising ridges and digging furrows, which helps with drainage and irrigation. At the same time, during land preparation we should spread farmyard manure as base fertilizer; the farmyard manure should preferably be mainly decomposed manure, to ensure the fertility of the soil.

2. Sowing

Sowing is generally done around the end of April, but it can also be appropriately moved earlier, which can extend the harvest period, that is, increase the time for flowering and fruiting. Before sowing, treat the seeds as much as possible. The most common method is to soak the seeds in potassium permanganate liquid, then after about ten minutes remove the seeds and rinse them several times with clean water, then wrap the seeds in cloth and place them at a suitable temperature to germinate. When a little white sprout appears, they can be sown. The purpose of doing this is to increase the germination rate.

3. Temperature

The growth of cherry tomatoes is greatly related to temperature, so we must manage temperature well. The most suitable temperature for cherry tomato growth should be around 20 to 28°C. The temperature cannot be lower than 15°C, otherwise the cherry tomatoes will grow very slowly. At the same time, the maximum temperature cannot exceed 35°C, because too high a temperature will burn the seedlings. Especially during the flowering and fruiting period of cherry tomatoes, too high a temperature will cause flower and fruit drop, greatly reducing the yield of cherry tomatoes, so temperature control must be accurate.

4. Fertilization

Fertilization should be carried out reasonably and scientifically according to the land where the cherry tomatoes are planted. If the land is strongly acidic, compound fertilizer is generally chosen to neutralize the land and help maintain soil fertility. If it is alkaline soil, then calcium superphosphate needs to be used for neutralization. Only scientific fertilization like this can ensure the growth of cherry tomatoes. During the growth period, cherry tomatoes generally need three fertilizations. The first is when the cherry tomato seedlings are growing, that is, when they are 5 to 10 cm tall. The second fertilization should wait until the cherry tomatoes flower and bear fruit; at this time it is mainly to ensure the fruit-setting rate. The third fertilization is after the first batch of cherry tomatoes has matured and been harvested. This fertilization is very important, as it can make the cherry tomato plants grow new shoots and at the same time ripen the second batch of fruit.

5. Prevention

Generally speaking, cherry tomatoes have relatively few diseases. The most common one is damping-off disease during the seedling stage, so during the seedling stage we should spray them with chlormequat. Second, during flowering and fruiting, borers are likely to appear. At this time, just buy the targeted pesticide from an agrochemical store according to the type of borer to control them.
