After the grape harvest, the vines become weak, so field management should be strengthened to improve the plants' cold resistance for overwintering and promote new shoot growth the following year.
Pruning and orchard cleaning: on the basis of summer pruning, continue pinching and removing side shoots, remove tendrils and thin, weak canes, and pick off diseased leaves to reduce nutrient consumption and promote plump buds. At the same time, clear the weeds in the orchard, and take the pruned diseased shoots, diseased leaves, diseased berries, dead branches and debris out of the orchard to be buried deep or burned.
Post-harvest fertilizer: after harvest, depending on plant vigor, apply 12 kg of quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer per mu to promote recovery of vine vigor. If the vines are vigorous, apply less to prevent late extension of new shoots and consumption of large amounts of nutrients. Before the grapevines drop their leaves, apply a heavy basal fertilizer; generally from late September to early November, apply 15 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer and 0.4 kg of sulfur-containing three-element compound fertilizer per plant in holes, then cover with fine soil.
Loosening the soil to prevent waterlogging and drought: together with fertilization, dig 18 cm deep around the roots; deep digging is best done in September-October, when the cut roots can heal quickly. When there is a lot of rain, clear the ditches and drain in time; in drought, irrigate in time to keep the field water-holding capacity no lower than 60%.
Disease prevention and leaf protection: the main diseases are downy mildew, black pox, rust, etc.; pay attention to their control.
