2. For newly planted grapevines, set up small supports in the same year to tie and guide the new shoots. When the new shoots grow to about 20 cm, select and keep one thick, strong new shoot and remove the other tender shoots. To encourage secondary shoots and shape the plant, pinch the growing tip when the new shoots reach the height of the trellis surface. During winter pruning, use the secondary shoots as main framework branches to form the structure earlier.
3. Keep the orchard soil loose, which can increase root growth and reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases.
