Three Simple Methods to Protect Greenhouse Grapes from Freezing

In recent years, the area under protected grape cultivation has increased. Due to large temperature fluctuations in early spring, temperature inversion easily occurs inside the greenhouse, causing early-sprouting varieties to suffer freeze damage. The following measures can be taken in production for prevention and remediation.
1. Water 1 day before the cold snap arrives to increase soil moisture and air humidity inside the greenhouse, using moisture to regulate temperature.
2. Burn smoke piles in the vineyard. Smoke can reduce the radiant loss of soil heat and effectively raise the temperature in the vineyard. In the early morning before the cold snap arrives, light smoke piles made of somewhat damp rice straw, weeds, sawdust, etc. Usually set 1 smoke pile per 100 sq m, and keep each smoke pile smoking until around dawn. This method can only be used in open areas outside the greenhouse, relying on wind to drift the smoke over the vineyard; it must not be used inside the greenhouse. Lit smoke piles must be watched by a dedicated person, and after dawn they must be thoroughly doused with water and cleared away.
3. After freeze damage occurs, spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution to strengthen the trees and reduce the harm from the cold snap.
