Plum tree gum disease is an important disease on the trunks and branches of plum trees. When it occurs severely, it often causes the trunks to dry up and die, greatly affecting tree vigor and yield. It mostly occurs in warm and rainy seasons, especially in the south.
Control measures
1. Strengthen cultivation management. Apply sufficient base fertilizer when planting plum trees, and after entering full production years, increase fertilizer application to promote vigorous tree growth and improve disease resistance.
2. Eliminate overwintering sources of the disease. During winter pruning, do a good job of cleaning the orchard, collect diseased and dead branches and trunks and burn them in a centralized manner. Deeply plow the soil and expose the clods to the sun.
3. Scrape off diseased spots. Protect wounds with chemicals. In early spring, strengthen inspection and scrape off diseased parts in time. Apply "Hushu Jiangjun" emulsion to the diseased spot wounds to sterilize and disinfect, so that the diseased spots dry up and fall off quickly, protect the wounds for healthy healing, and eliminate the source of the disease.
4. Chemical control. For plum trees with relatively severe disease, before the plum trees sprout, spray the whole orchard with a 1000-fold dilution of "Hushu Jiangjun", mainly wetting the main trunk and large branches, to protect the branches and trunks and prevent pathogen invasion. Spray once every 7-10 days, for 2-3 consecutive treatments.
5. Use cationic surfactants. During the dormant period of plum trees, use "Cuhuawang No. 1" together with girdling technology, which can control plum tree gum disease, control shoots and excessive vigorous growth, improve fruit coloration, and improve quality.
6. Open ditches for drainage in time during the rainy season. The root system of plum trees is aerobic, so when planting plum trees on cultivated land, attention must be paid to timely drainage. Orchards prone to water accumulation should have deep ditches 30-50 cm dug, which not only benefits plum tree growth and enhances disease resistance, but more importantly reduces orchard humidity, inhibits pathogen growth, and achieves the purpose of disease prevention.
7. Harvesting techniques. In some plum production areas, fresh fruit is mainly used for processing into plum blanks or dried plums. At harvest, the traditional habit is to use bamboo poles to strike the trunk and branches to knock down the plums, causing mechanical damage to branch tips and creating conditions for pathogen invasion. Therefore, hand picking of plums should be promoted, which can both improve the quality of fresh fruit and protect branch tips, reducing opportunities for pathogen invasion.
