The hickory flower bud midge is the main pest damaging hickory flower buds. Because the insect body is tiny and concealed, its occurrence period is short, and the damage consequences are severe, once the effective control period is missed, hickory yield will be seriously affected. To effectively safeguard this year's hickory yield, scientific and technical personnel have proposed the following on how to carry out effective control:
First, promptly carry out canopy spraying at the two effective control times, when the current hickory male flowers have grown 2 cm and when the initial formation of female flower buds is observed. Ground spraying can also be adopted at present to kill the pests underground that have not yet emerged;
Second, select pesticide varieties accurately. Do not blindly increase the dosage or mix multiple pesticides. For ground spraying, use 25% Root Insect Clear at 1:500; for tree spraying, use 25% Guangzhi emulsifiable concentrate at 1:600-800 or Dusi Ben emulsifiable concentrate at 1:800. Note that during spray control, the liquid must be made to penetrate into the flower buds.
Third, it is strictly prohibited to use highly toxic and high-residue pesticides such as omethoate and methamidophos, so as to ensure the safety of people, food and the ecological environment.
