Applying flower-promoting fertilizer to lychee around Minor Cold is the right time
(1) Increase the application of organic fertilizer and avoid excessive use of chemical fertilizers. Based on a tree producing 50 kg of fruit, apply 0.5 kg of superphosphate, 1 kg of potassium sulfate, and about 10-15 kg of fully composted organic fertilizer per tree after flower drop, then apply manure water fertilizer once each at 35 days and 50 days after flower drop. (2) Timely and appropriate irrigation...
As for the annual phenological period of lychee, flower bud differentiation generally occurs from November to January of the following year, and at this time flower-promoting fertilizer needs to be applied to lychee. The main purpose is to enhance the tree's nutrition before flowering, promote flower bud differentiation, form robust flower panicles, and improve fruit set. The application period for flower-promoting fertilizer is generally 10-20 days before flower bud differentiation. The "Nuomici" lychee in Dongguan County, Guangdong, undergoes flower bud differentiation from December 15 to January 5. Therefore, flower-promoting fertilizer should be applied from November 25 to December 25; the "Zhuangyuanhong" lychee in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, begins flower bud differentiation from October 11 to November 20, and flower-promoting fertilizer should be applied from October 22 to November 10; the "Lanzhu" lychee in Zhangzhou City has its flower bud differentiation period from mid-October to mid-February of the following year. Because the flower bud differentiation periods of different varieties and different regions are difficult to determine, generally early-maturing varieties should be given flower-promoting fertilizer around Minor Cold in early January, and late-maturing varieties around Major Cold in late January. For fertilizer types, slow-release fertilizers should be combined with quick-acting fertilizers, and farmyard manure with chemical fertilizers. Usually, 50-100 kg of decomposed human manure and urine is applied per tree, along with 0.25-0.5 kg of nitrogen fertilizer.
