Cherry planting is generally done in spring after the soil thaws and before the saplings bud, mostly from mid-to-late March to early-to-mid April, planted close to the time before budding. When planting, pay attention to the following two points:
1. Selection and treatment of saplings. Before planting, select robust saplings with plump buds, well-developed root systems, and no pests or diseases. Then soak the sapling roots in water for 24 hours, then disinfect them by soaking the roots in 3-5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture or in a 30-fold dilution of the biological pesticide Agrobacterium radiobacter K84 for 5 minutes before planting.
2. Planting method. Before planting, first measure the planting points according to row and plant spacing, then dig planting holes centered on the planting points, and then proceed with planting. The planting depth is usually based on the ground mark on the sapling being level with the ground surface, and the depth of soil filling is adjusted according to this standard. After the planting depth is adjusted, place the sapling into the hole with the graft union facing north, spread the roots out and distribute them evenly in all directions, and hold the sapling straight, aligning it left and right so that the rows line up both lengthwise and crosswise, then fill in soil, tamping it down as you fill, fill soil up to the ground surface, make a bed and irrigate, and after the water seeps in, seal the hole with soil, and mound soil around the sapling trunk to a height of about 30 cm, to help conserve soil moisture and prevent the sapling from being blown crooked by the wind.
