Key Technical Points and Precautions for Summer Fertilization of Chinese Chestnut
To improve the yield and quality of Chinese chestnut, the chestnut trees should be fertilized in summer. To improve the yield and quality of Chinese chestnut, the chestnut trees should be fertilized in summer. There are mainly two fertilization methods:
Soil fertilization method: for chestnut orchards with thin, poor soil and a severe lack of fertilizer, the soil fertilization method gives better results. Dig a circular ring trench within the drip line of the chestnut tree canopy for fertilization, with a trench width of 25 cm and a depth of 20 cm, applying 1 kg of superphosphate, 0.3 kg of urea and 0.25 kg of borax per tree. When fertilizing, the urea and borax should first be dissolved in water and then applied in the trench, splashing water while fertilizing. After fertilizing, backfill the trench with soil promptly to prevent nutrient volatilization. If an appropriate amount of farmyard manure is also applied during fertilization to enrich the soil, it has a good effect on promoting heavier fruiting of Chinese chestnut the following year and reducing the rate of empty burs.
Foliar topdressing method: this fertilization method is effective for Chinese chestnut trees on all kinds of soil in summer. Mix 0.3-0.4% urea solution, 0.3-0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution and 0.3-0.4% borax solution, then spray the tree canopy before 9 a.m. or after 3 p.m. on a sunny day, and spray once more after 10 days, for a total of two sprays. If heavy rain occurs within 10 hours after spraying the fertilizer, it must be sprayed once more to ensure the fertilization effect.
