How to Increase Sugarcane Yield

Sugarcane is a very sweet fruit, but unlike ordinary fruits, the part we eat is the stem of the sugarcane; sugarcane has no fruit. The stem of the sugarcane is shaped like a stick and is fairly rich in sucrose, which is greatly beneficial for the human body's sugar accumulation. However, although quite a few people grow it, their yields are often less than satisfactory, so how should it be planted to achieve high yields? Let me introduce it to you below!

1. Choose superior varieties

To plant sugarcane, you need to choose a superior variety. According to factors such as weather changes in the planting area and soil conditions, when selecting a variety, choose one with high yield, high sugar content and strong growth capacity. However, all factors must be reasonably matched; for example, relatively well-known varieties on the market now include Xintaitang and 00236, among others. These varieties all have a series of advantages such as high yield, early maturity, sufficient sugar content and strong disease resistance. A good variety can reduce the management burden in the later period, lower the incidence of sugarcane diseases and increase sugarcane yield.

2. Land preparation and sowing

Sugarcane needs to be planted in soil that is sunny, has strong drainage and irrigation capacity, and is fertile and loose. After choosing the planting plot, carry out deep plowing and soil loosening on the plot. Apply sufficient base fertilizer and mix the base fertilizer evenly with the soil; the main purpose is to improve soil fertility and strengthen the ability to retain water and fertilizer. Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked. The seeds of sugarcane are the stems; choose plump, disease-free and robust stems, put them in a mixed liquid of thiophanate-methyl and water and soak them for about ten minutes, then take them out, air-dry them and plant them.

3. Field management

After sugarcane is planted and covered with film, its growth rate becomes faster, and the early growth rate is relatively fast during the planting process. The base fertilizer should contain sufficient nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and during topdressing, fertilizer should be applied at least three times. The first time is during the seedling emergence stage, applying a seedling-strengthening fertilizer; the second time is during the tillering stage, applying a tiller-strengthening fertilizer; the last time is to promote stem growth. After sugarcane becomes taller, it is prone to lodging, so regular intertillage and hilling should be carried out to prevent sugarcane from lodging. Remove old leaves in time to improve the airiness and light penetration of the orchard and strengthen the resistance of the sugarcane.

4. Timely harvest

Harvesting sugarcane has requirements. The most suitable season for harvesting sugarcane is winter each year, because this stage is when sugarcane grows best and has the most abundant nutrients. The main harvesting method for sugarcane is cutting, and when cutting, the cutting position should be determined according to the height and depth of the sugarcane. Be careful not to damage the sugarcane stubble after cutting, because the sugarcane stubble can continue to sprout and form new sugarcane. When cutting, pay attention not to harvest sugarcane that is not mature enough; it cannot be cut until it is fully mature.

The four points above are the high-yield planting techniques for sugarcane. In fact, as long as daily management is done well, the yield of sugarcane can be guaranteed. The main thing is still to focus on preventing and controlling pests and diseases. This is because pests and diseases will damage the nutrient absorption of sugarcane, causing the nutrients in the sugarcane to be lost, lowering the sugar content, and resulting in reduced yield in mild cases or total crop failure in severe cases. Therefore, everyone must do a good job in preventing and controlling pests and diseases. This article is for reference only, and I hope it is helpful to everyone.
