How to manage large cherries in autumn? Focus on these two key points

1. Cultivation of compact fruiting branch groups. When the space where a branch is located is relatively small or the branch is on the back of a main branch, it should be cultivated into a compact small fruiting branch group. Cultivation method: for branches on the upper part of the main branch and on its back, twist the shoots during the growing season or pinch the tips repeatedly and then let them grow untrained; for branches not treated during the growing season, during the dormant period, cut them very severely short...
Apply base fertilizer early. Because large cherries use nutrients stored in the tree for bud break and flowering, base fertilizer plays a decisive role in the tree's growth and development the following year. Applying base fertilizer early allows its fertilizer effect to be exerted in the same year and can increase nutrient reserves before overwintering. This is because September is the peak period of root growth for large cherries, which is conducive to nutrient absorption. At the same time, injured roots can also recover well, which helps produce more new roots. Fertilization at this time mainly uses farmyard manure, phosphate fertilizer and an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer. For young trees, apply deeply in trenches at the canopy projection area; for trees in full fruit period, broadcast-apply over the whole orchard combined with turning the soil. Farmyard manure must be fully decomposed before application to avoid burning the roots. The amount of base fertilizer accounts for about 70% of the annual fertilization amount. For young trees in the canopy expansion stage, generally apply 30-50 kg of human excrement and urine per tree or 5-8 kg of pure chicken manure. To promote early canopy formation, an additional 150 g of nitrogen fertilizer can be applied per tree; for trees in full fruit period, generally apply 60-80 kg of human excrement and urine per tree or 20-30 kg of pure chicken manure; for trees in the initial fruit stage, an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer can be added, achieving controlled nitrogen, increased phosphorus and supplemented potassium. Applying base fertilizer early is also beneficial to the decomposition of organic fertilizer and the release of nutrient elements.

Do a good job in pest and disease control. Although active control in the earlier period brought pests and diseases under effective control, this does not mean they have been completely eliminated. September has many consecutive rainy days, and pathogens spread easily. When controlling pests and diseases at this time, attention should be paid to rotating pesticides, on the one hand to eliminate or alleviate the resistance of pathogens and pests to the pesticides, and on the other hand to reduce the residues of a certain pesticide.
