Peach Tree Summer Pinching Methods and Technical Key Points

Peach trees bloom very profusely; how should flower and fruit thinning be carried out? What should be noted? Peach trees bloom heavily and have a high fruit-setting rate, but too much fruit set can affect fruit quality, reduce commercial value, and can also weaken tree vigor and shorten lifespan. Flower and fruit thinning should be done in a timely manner, and earlier is better than later. First thin buds and flowers, then thin fruitlets 1-3...
How should peach trees be pinched in summer?

Key points of summer pinching techniques for peach trees:
Pinching of upright shoots: For new shoots growing upright on the upper side of branches, leave 5-6 leaves and pinch. After pinching, 1-2 new shoots can emerge; leave 5-6 leaves and pinch again. Carry out 2-3 times throughout the year, and excessive vigorous growth of new shoots can be effectively controlled. Pinching at this stage should be done frequently, because when pinching, the length of the new shoots differs, and the control effect differs. When new shoots grow to 5-6 leaves, they should be pinched. If you wait until the new shoots grow to 30-40 cm before cutting the tips, that both consumes nutrients and fails to control fruiting.
Pinching of fruiting branches: For long fruiting branches that have not yet stopped growing, control growth and promote flower bud differentiation.
Pinching of secondary shoots: Pinching the secondary shoots on the extension shoots of scaffold branches can control growth and promote the filling out of branch tissues; pinching the secondary shoots on the water sprouts and competing shoots controlled by the previous summer pruning can control growth and promote flower bud differentiation.
Pinching of cut-end shoots: For branches near the pruning cut that tend to grow wildly, leave 3 leaves and pinch. There are no leaf buds in the leaf axils of the 3 leaves left, and growth can only occur after leaf buds form again. Generally, pinching once is enough; if growth is vigorous, pinch once more. However, note that pinching should be done early and severely. It is not suitable for moderately vigorous trees or weaker trees.
