Want more cherries? Seeking guidance
There are two main reasons for a cherry tree bearing little fruit: 1. Improper cultivation and management lead to excessively vigorous tree growth, no flower buds forming, affecting fruiting. 2. Severe pests and diseases or poor fertilizer and water conditions leave the tree with insufficient stored nutrients, causing poor flower bud development and severe flower and fruit drop during the blooming period, or poor pollination and fertilization due to continuous rainy weather or sudden low temperatures during the blooming period.
The prevention and control measures are as follows: 1. Reasonable summer pruning. Young cherry trees are often not easy to form flowers, so reasonable summer pruning must be adopted. For example, from late May to early June, pinch the tips of upward-growing branches or cut the shoots leaving 30 cm, and after pruning seal the cuts with wound healing and antiseptic film. In July-August, bend the branches: pull the scaffold branches to about 80 degrees, and pull the auxiliary branches and fruiting branches to more than 90 degrees, to control vegetative growth, promote flower bud differentiation and the formation of clustered short fruiting branches, and bear fruit earlier. 2. Protect flowers and fruit during the blooming period. Spray 1-2 times of Zhuangguodiling at the early blooming stage and the full blooming stage, or 0.3% urea + 0.3% borax + 0.3% monopotassium phosphate 1-2 times; or carry out artificial pollination once each at the early blooming stage and the full blooming stage. In areas prone to low temperatures during the early spring blooming period, irrigating before blooming can delay the blooming period by 3-5 days, staggering the low-temperature weather, or spraying water during the blooming period can also reduce the impact of low temperatures on blooming and fruit setting. 3. Strengthen pest and disease control and fertilizer and water management.
