What techniques in sugarcane cultivation can increase sugar content? Please provide guidance.
To increase the sugar content of sugarcane, fertilization can be used. The methods can refer to the following techniques:
Do a good job in sugarcane production, mainly to improve the yield and quality of sugarcane. To increase the sugar content of sugarcane, the important measure is first of all a reasonable nutritional combination, according to multiple practical data. The ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium required by sugarcane is about 4:1:2. To ensure that sugarcane has sufficient nutrition throughout the entire growth period and can continuously provide nutrients to the plant, attention should be paid to the application of organic fertilizer in the base fertilizer. Generally, about 2000 kg of farmyard manure per mu is suitable. To reduce the effect of phosphorus fertilizer being easily fixed by the soil and affecting fertilizer efficiency, about 30 kg of calcium superphosphate should be mixed evenly with organic fertilizer and composted together. Since potassium fertilizer, after being applied to the soil, is mostly absorbed by soil colloids and becomes exchangeable potassium, with relatively little mobility in the soil and generally not easy to leach away, it should be applied close to the root zone. Also, because the pattern of potassium uptake by sugarcane is mainly concentrated in the early and middle stages, accounting for about 80% of the total potassium uptake over the whole period. Moreover, the potassium absorbed in the early stage can be transferred within the plant for later growth, so potassium fertilizer should also be applied early, preferably with 50% of the total amount in the base fertilizer and the remaining 50% applied at the peak tillering stage or the early elongation stage. Generally, over the entire growth period, 13.5 kg of potassium chloride or 15 kg of potassium sulfate and about 35 kg of urea are applied. In addition to applying base fertilizer, the remaining fertilizer should be applied as topdressing in the tillering stage (7-8 leaves), elongation stage and peak elongation stage combined with earthing up and manure water. The proportion of fertilizer allocated at the peak elongation stage is relatively large, accounting for about 50% of the remaining fertilizer. During the entire growth period, sugarcane needs multiple foliar supplements of secondary and trace elements. It is recommended to spray foliar fertilizers that plants can easily absorb, such as amino acids and those containing zinc, boron, magnesium and other elements. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate, Tianfengsu, etc. can also be sprayed. If sugarcane is planted in winter or early spring, covering with plastic film can increase the temperature inside the film and at the soil surface, enhance the biological activity of enzymes inside the seed cane, accelerate bud sprouting, improve the survival rate and strengthen seedlings, enabling the plants to grow early and quickly, prolonging the effective growth period, and increasing the accumulation of photosynthetic products, all of which can increase sugar content and yield.
In short, to increase the sugar content of sugarcane, the main requirements are a reasonable combination of fertilizer elements in the root zone; multiple foliar supplements of secondary and trace elements; and the adoption of advanced plastic film mulching cultivation techniques to prolong the effective growth period and increase sugar transformation.
