Causes of fruit cracking in pear trees: First, excessive fruit growth, imbalanced soil moisture supply, and uneven fruit growth; second, no potassium fertilizer applied or insufficient potassium fertilizer causing fruit cracking; third, pear scab can also severely cause cracking.
To control fruit cracking in pear trees, it should be done from May to July. First, carry out timely intertillage and weeding to loosen the root-zone soil around the tree disc, which can maintain soil moisture content, enhance soil aeration, and also keep soil temperature constant, creating good conditions for root activity and growth. Second, after intertillage, cover the tree disc, using weeds and straw to cover around the tree disc to reduce water evaporation. Third, when applying fruit-strengthening fertilizer, apply an appropriate amount of potassium fertilizer. For 5- to 6-year-old pear trees, apply about 100 g of potassium sulfate per tree or 2 to 3 kg of plant ash, applied 30 cm away from the tree roots. Taking the above measures can greatly reduce fruit cracking. If pear scab is present, use 50% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder or 50% Tuzet wettable powder at 500 to 600 times dilution for spraying, spraying 2 to 3 times, to control this disease and reduce cracking.
