Wampee can be propagated by grafting methods such as cut grafting, bud grafting or cleft grafting, and the most suitable grafting periods are spring (January to March) and autumn (September to October). For rootstock, in July to August each year when the wampee fruit is fully ripe, select ordinary sour wampee, take out the seeds, wash them and sow them immediately. They generally germinate half a month after sowing. After the seedlings emerge, strengthen fertilizer and water management and pest and disease control to promote robust seedling growth. When the rootstock stem reaches a thickness of more than 0.8 cm, grafting can be carried out. From superior mother trees, select healthy current-year or one-year-old branches with plump buds and no pests or diseases as scions. About half a month after grafting, the grafted buds will gradually sprout, and it is necessary to promptly remove rootstock buds, set up supports, prevent pests and diseases, and carry out weeding and fertilization. The grafted buds should be pinched in time to cultivate 2 to 3 branches. When the seedlings reach a height of more than 30 cm, they can be lifted from the nursery for planting.
