Reference for plum grafting and management is as follows:
1. Grafting: Grafting in late June is ideal. 7 to 10 days before grafting, select vigorous outer branches and pinch off the growing tips to promote earlier maturity of the scion. In addition to choosing plump buds when grafting, the grafting site should be 5 to 8 cm above the ground, which helps the grafted bud sprout early.
2. Post-grafting management: Generally, cutting the rootstock promotes earlier sprouting than bending it. However, when cutting the rootstock in summer, be sure to cut 3 to 5 cm away from the grafted bud, leave a few leaves on the rootstock, and after the grafted bud sprouts, cut the rootstock 1 cm above the grafted bud. After cutting the rootstock, remove sprouts promptly, removing all buds growing from the rootstock and keeping only the grafted bud. In the later stage of the sapling, water it at the right time. At the end of September, when the grafted bud has grown to 70 to 100 cm, pinch off all growing tips and stop watering to promote thickening growth of the sapling, helping it mature and improving its ability to overwinter.
