What harm do eriophyid mites do to longan trees? How do you control eriophyid mites on longan trees? Please, readers, lend a handZhongdiwang has compiled the harm caused by longan tree eriophyid mites and their control methods, listed in detail below for readers' reference.
Harm caused by longan tree eriophyid mites:
The adult mites, nymphs and larvae of the longan tree eriophyid mite can all feed on and damage longan leaves, but they only damage the mature leaf surface tissue, piercing the leaf surface cells with their mouthparts to suck out the sap; no damage has been found on the underside of leaves. After the cells are destroyed, the damaged area first takes on a moist appearance, then turns grayish brown, and finally becomes purplish brown.
Leaves damaged by eriophyid mites have reduced photosynthesis or lose it entirely, and their lifespan is shortened. Because the leaf surface cuticle is not destroyed, the leaf surface does not lose its gloss; especially when damage symptoms appear extensively in winter, it is often mistaken for a seasonal physiological change, or, because the mites themselves cannot be seen, it is thought to be caused by disease.
Control methods for longan tree eriophyid mites:
Method one:For densely planted orchards, be willing to cut down trees so that the orchard planting density is reasonable, with good ventilation and light penetration. Shaded inner-canopy branches, drooping branches or excessively dense branches should be pruned away in time. Once any damaged shoot is found, it should be pruned off immediately and burned.
Method two:Spray the affected plants with 20% dicofol emulsifiable concentrate diluted 750 times with water, or 15% pyridaben emulsifiable concentrate diluted 1500 times with water, or Chongmanba emulsifiable concentrate diluted 2000 times with water.
