Notes on planting bayberry

Bayberry is a rather unique fruit in China, with a distinctive taste that is the favorite of many people, or at least the favorite of this editor. Bayberry not only has high economic value but also a wide range of uses, and its nutritional value is also relatively rich. Next, its yield is generally quite good, but sometimes external factors can cause a reduction in bayberry production. Below is what Qinnong Net is sharing with you today about the notes on planting bayberry. Let's take a look.

1. Time

Normally we choose to plant in February or March of spring, and its survival rate can reach as high as over 95 percent. Next, it can sometimes also be planted around October in autumn, but later cold protection measures must be taken, otherwise it will not survive the winter. If bayberry is planted at the wrong time, the following situations may occur. First, the growth cycle of the bayberry is lengthened and the fruiting period is delayed. Second, the survival rate of the bayberry tree is not high, and dead seedlings appear. Third, the quality of the fruit produced by the bayberry tree is not high. Fourth, the bayberry tree ages faster later on and its service life is shortened. From this it can be seen how important it is to plant at the right time.

2. Soil

Bayberry can be planted in most areas of China, but if you observe carefully, you will find that bayberry trees planted in alkaline soil or clayey soil, although they bear a lot of bayberries, produce very small fruit, and the fruit tastes very sour, so when planting, you still need to choose the soil well. The most suitable soil for bayberry growth should be slightly acidic yellow soil or red soil. Purple soil is also a good choice. Next, it is best to use sandy soil, because its drainage function and soil permeability are both extremely strong.

3. Temperature

Bayberry is a plant that likes warmth and light, so what we need to pay attention to is heat dissipation in summer and heat preservation in winter. The best temperature for bayberry growth is around 18 to 22 degrees, and the annual average temperature is best kept at 15 to 20 degrees. The lowest temperature must not exceed minus 12 degrees, or it will freeze to death, and the highest temperature must not exceed 35 degrees, so all planting friends should pay attention to installing a thermometer in the planting area.

4. Humidity

Bayberry is not drought-tolerant, so it has a relatively large demand for water. Generally, as long as the soil is relatively moist, there is no major problem, but if we properly regulate moisture, this can promote the growth of the bayberry tree and allow it to enter the fruiting period smoothly, and the yield and quality of the bayberry can also be guaranteed. The humidity for bayberry during the growth period is best at around 60 to 70 percent, and the humidity during the fruiting period is best at around 40 to 50 percent, because it still needs to accumulate sugar. If there is too much water, the bayberry will be bland and tasteless.

5. Nutrients

Nutrient management is the most important point among them. If nutrients are handled properly, then to a certain extent they can determine the yield and quality as well as its service life. Bayberry is generally given base fertilizer in autumn, mainly farmyard manure, and each bayberry tree needs about 50 jin. Next, growth fertilizer is applied in February or March, and a moderate amount of nitrogen fertilizer can be applied. Finally, fruit-strengthening fertilizer is applied in April or May, usually mainly plant ash, and then an appropriate amount of phosphate fertilizer, potassium fertilizer, or compound fertilizer is added.
