Precautions for growing pistachio trees

The pistachios we usually see are basically processed products, and many people have never seen pistachios growing on trees. In fact, pistachios are initially wrapped in a layer of fruit skin, and what we eat is only the kernel. Pistachios have very good economic value and sales in the market, but the quality of many pistachios is not ideal. So today Qinnong.com will tell you a few issues that need attention during cultivation, so that you can ensure your pistachios have high yield and good quality. Let's take a look below.

1. Soil

When we hear the name pistachio, it sounds happy no matter when, so it can grow anywhere. However, if you want to grow high-quality and high-yield pistachios, then the quality of soil selection is the most basic condition for pistachio growth. We generally choose soil with good permeability or sandy soil. Calcareous soil and yellow soil are both very good choices. Next, the pH of the soil is best moderate. Of course, it can also be slightly acidic, but it absolutely must not be slightly alkaline, otherwise it will directly affect its growth.

2. Water

The growth of pistachios also has certain requirements for water. It cannot grow in soil with standing water, so the planting site is best to have a certain slope and no pits or hollows. Next, during its growing period, water is also necessary. If there is less rainfall, although it will still bear fruit, the quality will be simply unsightly. Especially in summer, if there is a lack of water, it is very likely that you will get nothing and all your efforts will be wasted. Therefore, the humidity of the planting site should be maintained at least around 40% to 50%. Next, the average annual rainfall should reach around 300 mm, so that the normal growth of pistachio trees can be maintained.

3. Light

The pistachio tree is a plant that greatly loves light, so its requirements for light are relatively strict. The growth of pistachio trees requires sufficient photosynthesis, so that they can bear fruit. According to relevant statistics, in one year the pistachio tree needs at least 3,000 hours of light, which means it basically needs to be under light for about 8 hours a day. Next, the best growth temperature for pistachio trees is maintained at around 28 to 30 degrees, but during the fruiting period, the greater the temperature difference between day and night, the more fruit it bears. So you can increase the temperature during the day and lower it at night.

4. Fertilization

Fertilization management for pistachio trees is carried out in stages. During the seedling stage, only one fertilization is needed. Adult fruit trees need at least three fertilizations a year, according to the growth period. The first is when they sprout in spring, the second is when they bloom, and the third is after fruiting. After the fruit trees have gone through four or five years, we need to add one more fertilization on this basis to prevent the seedlings from aging and reduce yield. Therefore, after each harvest, one more fertilization is also needed. Of course, for pistachio trees, fertilization is best based mainly on organic fertilizer.

5. Pruning

Because pistachio trees have relatively strict requirements for light, pruning branches and leaves is also very necessary. Reasonable pruning can enhance light transmission in the orchard, so that the fruiting rate of pistachio trees can be ensured. We generally prune away weak branches and leaves, dead branches, old branches, diseased branches, and branches and leaves in places that are too densely grown.

6. Pollination

The pistachio tree is a monoecious plant, which means it can carry out self-pollination. Although self-pollination has a high fruit-setting rate, the fruit is not firm and fruit drop is very serious. Therefore, to a certain extent, we need to carry out artificial supplementary pollination, which can increase the success rate of fruiting and thereby increase the final yield of pistachios.
