A Detailed Guide to Common Lychee Pests and Diseases and Their Control Methods
Lychee is one of the fruits many people love to eat, and it is nicknamed "Concubine's Smile." It is distributed in southern China and is one of the fruits unique to the south. Lychee is famous for its plump flesh and abundant juice, but do you know how many pests and diseases it can suffer from during its growth? Today, the editor will introduce several common diseases of lychee.

1. Stink bugs
Stink bugs generally feed on the young shoots, flower clusters and fruits during the young fruit stage of lychee, causing the fruits to drop. In winter, under low-temperature conditions, stink bugs enter a state of feigned death. We can shake the branches, and after they fall to the ground, eliminate them. We can also use pesticides for spraying and killing. The active period of stink bugs is generally March, April and May. Spray once each month during these three months with pesticides such as methamidophos to control the insects. The egg masses of stink bugs are also very obvious, and the egg masses can be collected and dealt with together.
2. Fruit-stem borers
Fruit-stem borers, as the name suggests, feed on the fruit stalk during the young fruit stage of lychee, entering the fruit from the stalk and feeding on the stone, causing the fruit to drop. The transport tissue is eaten hollow, and the leaves turn yellow and withered. In winter, the orchard should be cleaned thoroughly, and the fallen dead branches should be gathered and burned. About one month before the flower cluster stage and fruit ripening, spray pesticide for prevention. You can use 750 times diluted dichlorvos or 1000 times diluted Xingbaomian for spraying and killing, but note that the larvae live inside the leaf veins, while the adults are in the tree canopy.
3. Inchworms
There are many kinds of inchworms, and they also feed on leaves and young fruits. The most serious period is in spring when lychee blooms. Before lychee blooms or after the flowers fade, spray pesticide to eliminate them. You can use 800 times diluted dichlorvos or 900 times diluted trichlorfon for spraying and killing. However, note that inchworms are also very harmful to people. Be careful not to let inchworms touch the skin on your body. If they touch the skin, it will become red and swollen, both painful and itchy!
4. Leaf roller moths
Like inchworms, leaf roller moths also have many species. The larvae feed on leaves, fruit shoots and bore into fruits, and they are the most frequently active among these pests. The control methods are also similar to the previous ones: clean the orchard in winter, gather and burn dead branches, and spray dichlorvos before flowering and after the flowers fade.
5. Scarab beetles
There are two relatively common scarab beetles, the flower-feeding scarab and the copper-green scarab. Adult scarab beetles eat leaves and fruits, while the larvae generally live underground and feed on roots, preventing the fruit tree from absorbing nutrients and worsening tree vigor. In the morning and evening, scarab beetles fly in groups. At this time, manual capture can be used, or when they are in a state of feigned death, shake the branches, and after they fall to the ground, eliminate them together. Pesticides can also be sprayed, or before the larvae emerge from the soil, spray phoxim poison for killing.
6. Felt disease
The main harm of felt disease is to young leaves, and in severe cases it harms flower clusters or branches. The main pest is the rust mite. When this pest appears, the upper side of the leaves looks as if it has rusted. It is most serious in spring. The damaged leaves have toothpick-like protrusions, and the damaged parts expand and thicken, with white downy hairs on the underside. Generally, when this situation occurs, prune the damaged branches, remove the fallen branches, and gather and burn them. When buds sprout in spring, pesticides such as dichlorvos can be sprayed for prevention.
The above six pests and diseases are the common pests and diseases of lychee. In fact, the places where pests and diseases feed are mostly similar, nothing more than fruits and leaves, and most of their active periods are also in spring. It is only necessary to spray pesticide frequently for prevention at the beginning of spring, and the pesticides for spraying and killing these pests and diseases are mostly similar. Once one of the pests or diseases is found, timely countermeasures must be taken, otherwise your economic interests may be damaged!
