What practical methods are there for increasing grape yields?
China's grape market is truly spectacular. Every grape production season, grapes can be seen in the streets and alleys, and they sell very well. However, in recent years, many external factors have led to reduced grape yields and lower quality. So today Qinnong Network will teach you a few tricks to make the grapes in your vineyard abundant and exquisite. Now follow along with the editor and take a careful look.
1. Choose good varieties
If you want to increase grape yields, then the grape variety is the foundation of high yield, so we need to choose the variety with excellent resistance that is most suitable for local growth. Only in this way can grape yields be fundamentally increased. There are currently very many grape varieties, at least a hundred or so, so how do you distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of grape varieties? Here is a little piece of knowledge: you need to observe the root system of the grape seedling to see whether the roots are well developed and look very vital; next, observe the branches and leaves of the seedling to see whether the color is uniform and whether the stems are relatively well supplied with moisture; finally, see whether the climate and environment of the planting site are suitable for the variety. So choosing varieties is actually very simple.
2. Scientific fertilization and watering
Grapes are very particular about fertilization and watering. Apart from base fertilizer, grapes have three key fertilization periods. We must fertilize at the correct times and in the correct way. The first fertilization is at the germination stage. In order to make the seedlings grow new branches and prevent the new branches from growing excessively, we generally use an appropriate amount of farmyard manure mixed with a little phosphate fertilizer and compound fertilizer, with the total amount controlled at around 1,000 jin. If the soil fertility is insufficient, you can also add 5 jin of nitrogen fertilizer and 5 jin of urea. The second fertilization is after the grape flowers fall. At this time, if fruit set is successful, then we need to fertilize to promote fruit growth. This fertilization is mainly nitrogen fertilizer, then mixed with a small amount of phosphate fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. The last time is when the fruit has grown almost fully and begins to change color. If we want the grapes to have a relatively uniform color and look very bright and beautiful, then we need to apply phosphate fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. Each fertilization should be accompanied by watering. Watering has two purposes: the first is to promote growth, and the second is to avoid burning the grape seedlings caused by fertilizer, performing a diluting effect.
3. Branch and leaf management
Branch and leaf management is a very important step in increasing grape yields. In order to prevent grape seedlings from growing too vigorously, we need to prune away some branches and leaves. Of course, it is not as simple as just cutting them off. We need to prune according to the growth condition of the main seedling of the grape. Generally, we retain the relatively strong branches and leaves and cut off the poorly growing ones or those with disease, and after pruning we still need to apply a layer of pesticide to them to prevent infection by pathogens and invasion by diseases.
4. Build trellises and sheds
We all know that grape cultivation definitely requires building trellises, but this is not a simple matter. Generally, we had best build the trellises in a herringbone shape, then use wire to connect each trellis, and the direction of the trellises must be regular and traceable. Finally, guide the grape seedlings onto the trellises and let them climb and grow along the wire. If irregular growth appears, adjustments will still be needed later. Every adjustment must be handled gently, and after fruiting, do not easily move the grape seedlings.
5. Thinning flowers and fruits
The growth patterns of grapes are all different, so sometimes in a vineyard you will find that each grape seedling is densely covered with flowers and covered with small grapes. At this time, it is not the moment to be happy, and you also should not feel reluctant to part with them. You need to remove an appropriate amount of the other fruits from the denser areas according to the principle of preserving the large and the good, so that normal growth can be maintained.
