Citrus Orchard Management Methods

Citrus is a major fruit, which is to say it is as well known as apples. We may all know that Hunan is a major city for citrus cultivation, because Juzizhou in Hunan is famous far and wide. After all, there is the head of Juzizhou where you can see the hills covered in red, and by the Xiang River one can survey the landscape. So this also shows that citrus is very suitable for growing in the Hunan region, and the editor has also seen many households in the countryside planting large tracts of citrus. In the process of citrus cultivation, orchard management is crucial. Now let Qinnong Web tell you about it.

1. Planting

When planting citrus, it should be planted according to a reasonable density. Then the first thing in orchard management is to plant the citrus trees properly, that is, to carefully observe whether there are missing seedlings anywhere in the orchard, or where the density is too high, and also where seedlings did not survive after planting. We all need to adjust and replant in time. When all the plants in the field have survived, the planting is successful.

2. Fertilizing

Citrus needs one heavy fertilizing each year, that is, after the fruit is harvested. In fact, this maintenance fertilizer is similar to the base fertilizer applied in the first year of planting, but the base fertilizer in the first year lays the foundation for the growth and fruiting of the citrus tree, while the subsequent maintenance fertilizer prepares for high yield in the coming year. In fact, the meaning is similar: both are for high yield and good quality. Next, fertilizer also needs to be applied once during the spring growth period of branches and leaves each year. This can shorten the growth period and move it into the flowering period. After entering the flowering period, fertilizer needs to be applied again, mainly by spraying, which helps promote flowering and preserve fruit and increase the fruit-setting rate. Finally, after fruit setting, fertilizer also needs to be applied once more, mainly boron fertilizer. Of course, you can spray a little pesticide specifically for strengthening fruit, so that the citrus grows rounder and colors more evenly.

3. Weeding

In order to increase citrus yield, we generally need to carry out at least three rounds of intertillage and weeding in the citrus orchard each year. First, it can loosen the soil for the fruit trees and let them breathe. Second, it reduces nutrient consumption, which is used to promote fruit tree growth. Third, it is improving the soil's ability to store fertilizer and retain water. Fourth, and most importantly, it can extend the service life of the citrus and increase yield. Generally, normal weeding times are divided into these three: first, during the spring season of branch and leaf growth; second, before the fruit trees bloom; and third, after fruiting.

4. Pruning

Pruning the branches and leaves of citrus is very necessary, because after planting, the fruit trees generally will not be transplanted again, since transplanting affects yield, so the only way is to effectively control the orchard density by pruning branches and leaves. The growth of citrus needs sufficient sunlight. Next, if it is to accumulate sugar, then sunlight is also very necessary. If it is in a relatively shady environment, then you will find that the citrus is sour and astringent, and the taste is very bad. Next, we cut away the branches and leaves that have already aged, because aged branches and leaves basically cannot bear much citrus, so it is better to let them regrow new strong branches to increase yield.

5. Orchard Cleaning

Every winter, the citrus orchard needs to be cleaned once. First, we need to clear fallen leaves, dead branches, weeds and other materials out of the orchard. Second, we need to comprehensively disinfect and sterilize the orchard. During the process of cleaning the orchard, we should carefully observe each citrus tree to see whether there is disease infection. If found, it needs to be dug out or treated with medication, and the corresponding pesticide should be spread for prevention and control. At the same time, if a relatively large amount of insect pests is found, it is necessary to spray trichlorfon, chlorothalonil or Bordeaux mixture. This can effectively increase the citrus yield in the coming year.
