Prepare the cutting seedbed. The seedbed should be selected from dry land with relatively high terrain, loose soil and a certain water-retention capacity. After plowing the land, arrange it into a seedbed about 1 m wide and 25 cm high, mix a certain amount of river sand into the bed surface, and use 1%-0.5% potassium permanganate to disinfect the soil 1-2 times.
Softwood cuttings. Around mid-to-late June, select current-year semi-lignified branches and cut them into cuttings with 2-3 nodes per section. Cut flat at about 1-2 cm from the upper bud, leave 1 leaf or 1/2 leaf, and cut a slanted cut at the lower end close below the node. Soak the base of the cuttings in 2000 ppm-5000 ppm indolebutyric acid or naphthaleneacetic acid for 3-4 hours, insert them into the seedbed at a plant-row spacing of 10 x 15 cm, press the soil around the cuttings firmly after insertion, and water once.
Hardwood cuttings. Generally carried out from after leaf fall to the dormant period, from December to March of the following year before sap flow. Select robust, lignified branches with a stem diameter of 0.4-0.8 cm, cut them into cuttings with 2-3 buds, with both the upper and lower cuts smooth; make the upper cut 1-2 cm from the bud, and apply wax to seal the cut after cutting. Soak the base in a 5000 ppm indolebutyric acid solution for 5 minutes, then insert into the seedbed.
Post-cutting management. After cutting, pay attention to building a shade shed to help retain water, protect from sun, rain and wind, and control the light inside the bed. When the new shoots grow to 5 cm, pinch the tips at the proper time while retaining 3-4 leaves, to control aboveground growth and promote rooting and seedling formation. After the seedlings grow to 10-15 cm, gradually strengthen weed control and fertilization.
