How to propagate cherry tomatoes by cuttings? A detailed guide to practical techniques

Melons & Fruits 0 views
Cherry tomatoes produce a large number of flowers, and many vegetable growers use flower spraying to preserve flowers and fruit. To improve the rate of premium fruit, each truss is generally sprayed twice. But this means a large amount of spray, which easily leads to hormone poisoning. A single truss of flowers should be sprayed in two separate rounds. The first spraying is done when 3-4 flowers of the truss have opened; at this point spray...
Because cherry tomatoes look like cherries but taste like tomatoes, they both satisfy people's curiosity and are rich in nutrients, so their market demand is very good. Owing to the cherry tomato's tendency to readily produce adventitious roots, cutting propagation was used in a greenhouse in early May, and the survival rate reached 100 percent.
I. Land preparation and bed making. Before cutting, till carefully and apply base fertilizer. The direction of the beds should run parallel to the length of the greenhouse. Generally, for each bed (6 m x 1 m), apply 10-20 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer and 5-6 kg of diammonium phosphate, then level it and spread a 3 cm thick layer of sandy soil.
II. Greenhouse preparation. Cover the outside of the greenhouse with one layer of shade netting, and hang another layer of shade netting inside, in order to lower the temperature inside. The suitable temperature for raising seedlings is 20-25°C.
III. Selection and treatment of cuttings. The cherry tomato variety selected was Taiwan Shengnyu. Select side shoots growing from the leaf axils; those bearing 1-2 flower trusses are also acceptable. Cut the top 12-15 cm, and remove the flower trusses and small side shoots on it to reduce nutrient consumption and water evaporation. Tie the prepared branches into bundles of 50 with fine string, stand them upright in a basin, soak the base 2-3 cm in 50 ml/kg naphthaleneacetic acid for 1-1.5 hours, and then carry out the cuttings.
IV. Cutting and post-cutting management. Set the cuttings at a plant spacing of 5 cm and a row spacing of 10 cm. Water after inserting; the first watering should be thorough, and afterwards water lightly with a small amount or use flow-through water, watering and draining at the same time, to moisten the soil and help lower the soil temperature and the field air temperature. After 7 days, water according to the soil moisture conditions to encourage root growth. At this point the shade netting can be removed. When the plants are more than 30 cm tall, after about 40-plus days, they can be transplanted.
